Caterham neighbour from hell jailed (http://www.thisissurreytoday.co.uk/news/Caterham-neighbour-hell-jailed/article-648251-detail/article.html)
A man who terrorised his neighbour was caged for six months on Monday after he failed to turn up to his probation appointments.
Enrico Hammond, 29, from Caterham, was sentenced to an 18 month community order with 18 months supervision and mental health treatment in May last year for intimidating a witness.
Ben Long, prosecuting, told the court that one of his neighbours had witnessed Hammond hitting another neighbour over the head with a metal bar and had testified against him.
He said the victim heard a loud bang on the ceiling and a distinctive voice swearing for several hours.
He added: "At approximately midnight he started playing music very loudly and the victim's boyfriend banged on the ceiling to try and get him to turn it down."
But the court heard that this just aggravated Hammond. The victim heard a knock on her bedroom window and when she looked outside to see him waving a hammer and shouting abuse at her.
Mr Long said: "She felt emotionally drained by the defendant as he has harassed her in the past. She did not feel safe in her own home as she was aware of what the defendant was capable of doing."
But despite being given a chance Hammond, of The Grove, Catherham, failed to show for four of his supervision appointments in September last year.
Phillip Longes, defending, told the judge that since his sentencing there had been no deterioration in Hammond's condition and he had no problems with his neighbours at his current address.
Recorder Lawrence West QC, sentencing at Guildford Crown Court, said: "The offence was a serious one in the sense that it leaves the victim feeling very very uncertain and unhappy and nothing can be said to minimise this effect."
He revoked the original community order and jailed Hammond for six months.
The judge added: "You have got to take on board the fact that these things are not happening to you by accident.
"You are not a bad man but you need to take on board that fact that you are a man suffering with a mental problems or your future will be a revolving door future."
