Professional Pyrotechnic (hobby job)

Hi all,
My hobby is pyrotechnic's (fireworks) I work when required for a local company and am professionaly trained, it's really hard physical and mental work but wow what a buzz when you let them off! I love hand fired shows and hate doing electric fired one's they are so boring. Anyway being a 'lady' I do get some folk who think I'm a bit weird, but mostly people think how cool! I have fired in football and rugby stadiums, of a gantry wall in the middle of a river and being lucky enough to work on some really big displays with thousands of pounds going up! I also get to travel a few years back I did a 3 night tour of scotland doing shows, I find it very theraputic and a great stress reliever, I can't believe how lucky I am that other people pay for the fireworks for me to light, and I get payed for doing it!

Fireworks in the right hands are safe, it's unfortunate that there are idiots out there who give fireworks a bad name, as we say in the business it's only a firework when its looking pretty in the sky, when it's on the ground its and explosive!

Are there any other pyrotechnuts out there?

that is a very different hobby to have and very impressive as well. :cool: are you involved just in setting them off, or do you get involved with working out the display?

and how much do those great big fireworks cost, i'd love to know!!!

Hi Annabel,

Yes quite often I am involved in the design of the show as well as setting them off, unless its a speciallist show to music then we have a set up to follow and strict timing to fire to. As for the costs I'd love to know too, but I'm not privvy to that information.

It's very exciting but the sort of job you either love it or it scares your pants of, ive seen grown men full of bravado but when they've hand fired their first rack of shells you should see their faces, we've even had them say 'I'm never doing that again your all bonkers' lol

i love fireworks....the loud ones frighten the hell out of me but i love them!
