View Full Version : Cross stitch
The first hobby I took up was cross stitch. I don't do it much now as it is hard on the eyes and my eyes aren't as good as they were :(
I have made some very big pieces of work which each take months to complete, but my favourite is one I created from a photograph. It is of my Grandmother who i never knew :( She died aged 25 but was a beautiful looking girl, and I have taken a full length photo of her, zoomed in and cut it to just head and shoulders. So it is a lovely portrait picture of her which I stitched in sepia colours :)
The one I am sort of working on now [eye sight permitting] is one of a photo of a Tudor house where my husbands ancestors used to live :) It is a beautiful house that I have visited and his ancestors lived there for several centuries. I used a software programme to convert the original photo into a cross stitch chart. I hope I get around to finishing it - it is a real labour of love that one
Anyone else tried cross stitch?

I used to do a lot of cross stitching when i was a young lass, lately I have been thinking about getting a kit and starting up again, I fancy doing a runner for my dining table, and I want it all floral in lovely shades. but then i think when am i going to sit down and do it? thats the trouble isnt it, with doing craft stuff, finding the time to devote to it to get a really nice job done.
Absolutely right Annabel :(
Every spare minute at the moment is spent exercising rather than crafting, but one day I hope to get back to cross stitch. I found it really therapeutic, just time consuming :(

Yep, I also partake in cross stitch, much to the amusement of my friends who think I should be doing something more butch, like mending cars or something more suited to my looks. They're strange people! :D
I've done a small me to you bear, a large celestial scape - all moons, stars, swirls, zodiac signs etc, winnie the pooh, hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil pandas and am currently working on the biggest one to date, called Pretty Eyes which does what it says on the tin. :D
I do have pics of some of them, but dunno where and haven't looked at how to put pics on here just yet so maybe in the future.
:D Good for you Monkey_Pants
We would love to see pics of them sometime
Wow Monkey_Pants how wonderful Isis and sewing neddles do not go together in the same sentance, so really admire people who can do this hobby, my Mum could, but Isis not a chance. As SP said would love to see pics.

Ok, as requested some pics, I couldn't find all of the ones I've finished on the computer as my files are so disorganised so some are links to images of ones I've done I found online, but honest, I did do them am just too lazy to go and take pics of the ones I finished. :D

And this is the one I'm currently working on. Its the largest of all of them and taking longer than I expected... then again, if I did it more often, it'd get done faster.

Apologies for all the linkiness but the images were coming up too large to put on as pics, so happy clicking.
They are lovely - I love the one you are working on now. It makes me want to start again, but my eyes say nooooo!! lol
Oh wow they are lovely I do appreciate how much work has gone into them, my Mum (bless her) did me a Home Sweet Home cross stitch sampler always wanted one and had it now for years sadly she is no longer with us, but when I look at it I do think of her :D

hehe right now my hands and wrists say no, or words to that general effect. It's gorgeous, much, MUCh larger than I thought I would be but I'm really enjoying it, am starting to actually be able to see what it is so thats giving me the oomph to keep going with it as I do tend to get bored when I put loads of work into something but don't really see results but I'm past that stage now so its all good! Yay!
Once I've recovered from the gardening, I'll get back into it and post pics when its done.
Wow I loved the celestial piece. The last time I did any cross stitch was for my sewing exam at school in 1964  but about 7 years ago I found a Winnie the Pooh holding my initial "M" cross stitch and decided to give it a go; it is now framed and hung on a wall - I am quite proud of it!!!!!
That was the only one I managed to do, I had to stop as I sometimes get cramp in my joints and muscles of my thumbs which is so painful, however, I really wish I could start again.
This is my attempt ....
