View Full Version : Scr ap booking
As well as card making etc I love scr apboking :D
It isn't those big sugar paper books like it was when I was a little girl, but beautiful albums.
These days, scr apbooking is more a way of displaying your favourite photos, with lovely papers and embellishments, and some journalling to describe the photos.
I especially like combining it with my family history hobby. I have a lot of old photos and make copies of them [never use the original old photo ] and using lots of vintage style papers and embellishments have made some lovely pages.
I have also done a lot of when my children were little and other special times in my life.
It is very similar to cardmaking in the materials used, but just as addictive too
Does anyone else do sc rapbooking?
I dont do sbooking at the mo, but I thin k that is a lovely idea  as I do a bit of family history and have a few photos
where do you get the albums/pages from?
The sbooks vary a lot in price, but for a fairly plain sbook probably the best place is somewhere like Sussex Stationers. Some department stores also sell the plain ones.
If you go to somewhere like Hobbycraft you can get plain albums, but also the named ones like K&Co which are dearer.
The albums come in 3 sizes - 12 x 12 inches [the size I use] or 8 x 8 or 6 x 6 inch
Backing papers are available in all 3 sizes and there are some beautiful vintage ones. I buy most of my 12 x 12 papers from various online craft shops like Capture the magic etc etc.
This is one of my heritage pages and includes a bit of journalling about the people in the photos and even a miniature pocket watch - my great uncle is wearing a pocket watch in the photo. There are some beautiful embellishments available and I even use things like dried flowers and lace, buttons etc on the heritage ones, but avoid them coming into contact with the photos themselves.
If they are old photos it is recommended to use a copy, but whatever photo you use you must be sure to use all acid free products - album.papers, embellishments etc to protect the photos from damage :)
It is very very addictive I should warn you Beth
thats lovely sp  I can see why they are treasured
I know this is going to sounds extremely ignorant but what exactly is sc rapbooking, I have seen it advertisted on the craft shows, but always wonder what it is?
basically its likeback in the 70's but better
if you went out for a day trip for example and took some photos, you make a nice background, then add a couple of nice photos, I think any more than 3 makes it too busy, then you can include a ticket, or a pass for example, so like if you went to the beach on a train and took some nice photos, you put the photos in, the train ticket, maybe a nice shell you found, and some themed paper (scr aps) like waves, or beach umbrellas etc :)
here is a site with a few examples :)

Isis, it is just a way of displaying your very special/photographs and souvenirs in an album but with the addition of lovely papers and embellishments. I have loads but can't put them all on here for obvious reasons. I have some lovely ones of my kids when they were little. You can also add 'journalling' and write about the person or place the page is about.
This one is another family history one. It is of my gran when she was about 15. It is on a 12 x 12 inch page. She was born in Victorian times and always makes me think of lavender and lace because she always smelt of lavender and she had lots of lace in her home :)
So, I made this page using a lovely vintage style lavender coloured sheet of 12 x 12 paper, topped it with a real lace doiley and made a copy of the original picture but mounted it onto acid free card so it doesn't touch the lace which may affect the photo over the years. The photo corners are for scra pbooking and are metal. The lavender is from my garden and I dried it myself. The tags I made from vellum and attached them with a pearl brad :)
It displays those special photos beautifully. I wish I could share more with you but they all have names on ;) I will try and make one and show it on here before I add names

That's a lovely thing to do and can add great fond memories of past and present family members plus it has the advantage of being past down from generation to generation..
Lovely idea Sp54
ahhh yes I did the same when I went to Egypt kept all the tickets etc and bunged them in my Egyptian photo album. ooo perhaps I might do one for my Grandad. Ummm got me thinking now, will wait until the New Year a bit busy at the mo, be prepared for questions. :D
