Didn't know where to put this :)

Re: FreeSat Grundig GUFSAT01HD Freesat HD Digital Set IMO definitely not a good unit to buy.

Mr O & I decided that as we needed a new tele; we've changed out lounge round and as our lounge runs from front of house to back of house the 32" is so small up the other end of the lounge that I was seriously thinking of getting theatre binoculars  Anyway we have decided on a 40" tele and to compliment a new tele we thought that we would have FreeSat installed; because it is free and there is only a one off charge for the installation of a dish and there are a lot of extra programmes.

The satellite dish was installed yesterday and we bought a Grundig GUFSAT01HD Freesat HD Digital Set. It was all running ok until 11:30pm last night when the freesat unit crashed and went blank; no matter what we tried we couldn't turn it off or on - it was dead :( This morning I spoke to the engineer who said unplug leave for a while, the reconnect, we did that and it worked

I then decided to use the TV/Freesat to listen to Radio 2 this morning; this is instead of having a hi-fi unit in the lounge. Anyway I searched and searched for the BBC Radio stations and they weren't there  So I re-installed the unit and again no BBC radio stations downloaded

So we returned it to Argos and got a replacement this afternoon, came home and set up the new one; reinstalled the unit and waited; installation finished and no BBC Radio stations were downloaded yet again! Even some of the TV stations were missing

So I rang Argos and said I want it collected and a refund as it was not "fit for purpose"; so that is what is happening. Now we have to find another unit only this time we are going for HUMAX this time

Since all this happened I have investigated the Grundig unit online and found that there are reports that these units have a software problem and also the picture is not as sharp as the Humax unit. So now have learnt my lesson to do some research into this sort of thing before buying it

Anyone else had problems with FreeSat?

Hi There,
I found Curry's to be the best place to buy TV at least you can get a demo and see the TV working before purchasing but if you ever do go here make sure you get a senior staff as they are the ones that have the best knowledge of which TV is best to suit your needs,,do not know much about freesat we got one which was HD ready and had free view built in good clear picture.

Hi Omega, I don't have anything like that but it's very useful to learn of your experience with that particular brand and equipment. I will need to get set-top boxes for two portables soon so I'll steer clear of that one!

I'm getting freesat through sky on a second TV soon, I'm hoping it will be hassle free :clover: .

I was wondering if the portable tv's you get that are digital ready with Freeview built in get a decent reception without a main ariel ie just with the portable's ariel? Maybe I should start a new thread on that one!

Hi we've had freesat from the start but we did intentionally start off with the Humax box as they were recommended on the AV forums and already had a good name in the satellite world, haven't had any problems with it so far. One other tip for anyone thinking of going this way, if you already have sky you can unplug your sky box and use this instead, they both run off the same signal, saves quite a bit of money and BBC HD is great. It also saves you paying for installation.
Hope this was of some help and you have more luck with the next box Omega.
