View Full Version : It's just so easy to get credit even in this present day climate
The other day I applied to buy some furniture on 12 months interest free credit, now considering I only do paid work for approx 4 hours a week, I decided to apply for the credit in my name ;)
I answered all the questions the store asked and within 5 minutes the credit company came back and said that I had been successful and accepted for £1600.00 worth of credit :o I was dumbfounded as I do not have a real income; they didn't even ask me what income we had coming into the home
We only applied as it was interest free and we might as well have the money in our account rather than pay for it up front. I'm also lucky hubby has a good pension so there is not a problem for us; but it just shows how easy it is to get credit even when you personally don't have an income - and in this present day climate too!!
Oh and a few years ago I applied and was given two credit cards when I was on Incapacity Benefit and one was a platinum card
Good grief
I thought it was this sort of lending that got us in this mess in the first place?
How did they know you had other income/a husband etc? That could have been your only source of money!
That is so irresponsible of the companies IMHO
I think mortgages are hard to get still though. My son and his girlfriend had the devils own job getting a mortgage and they have friends who have had/are having the same trouble right now :( Getting a foot on the property ladder is nigh on impossible if you are on an average wage
Hi Omega xx
I know what you mean, we had to buy a new telly about 1 week before we went on our cruise, obviously we did not have quite enough money, so we bought it on credit thingy, don't normally do this, well since then, I have had so many calls off the loan company offering us money every week they ring us, luckily I gave them my home phone so it just goes onto answering machine, but I am so angry:angry:, if I wanted money I would go them, so becuase I am not replying to the phone calls, they are now writing to me every week, sick of it, and don't start me off on my catelogue and as to my bank, well I blew up at them, every time I paid money into my account or paid my credit card bill, they phone me, offering me this that and something else and then the credit card people called me offering me a deal to transfer my balance from my other credit card, I very strongly told them I only have one credit card, they seemed very surprised :o.
As I have said before, imho, we are now in the state we are in because the banks got greedy and until the banks learn to control themselves we will have this boom and bust all the time.

With our bank I just rang them up and asked them to take our names off their mailing which they did, takes about 28 days sometimes more before it comes in to being but its worth requesting that.
We seem to be very lucky in that respect, we do get occasionally a letter to ask us if we want to move any outstanding money to interest free but I just say I pay my credit cards off monthly and they go away!

Hi Omega,
Some companies are throwing credit to customers to make money things are tight at the moment and people are applying for credit on big items and the credit companies like this but it cannot be helped if people need something that costs a bit then credit is the only way to get it believe me i know lol
