View Full Version : advert for curry sauce
I was just enjoying watching robot wars (yeah I am a geek!) and the ads came on
much to my disgust there is an advert for sharwoods curry sauce which makes out the sauce is loud and makes loud music come on, the ad finishes with the neighbours lying in bed having their bed rocked by the music with the man picking up the phone and saying "right thats it I am ringing the police"
I wasnt really paying attention so missed the first few seconds of this ad, has any one else seen it?
it bought back memories of the deritos ad (kelly osbourne and the "jerk" neighbours)
spot light on doritos (http://www.nfh.org.uk/spotlight/doritos/index.php)
when I get to see it again I will watch it fully and if I feel I ought to I will be emailing the complaints people :badmood:
I always feel strongly about adverts which advocate its ok to make noise
so....who's with me???

I've seen it too Beth - ggrrrrr
It made me  :o too when I saw it. It just takes the P out of noise nuisance issues and it's not funny at all.
If I remember rightly when you complain you also have to say what channel you saw the advert on, the date and the time.
If YOU see it, can you let us all know which station, the date and time please so we can do a mass complaint!
ITC Complaint Form Here! (http://www.itc.org.uk/how_can_we_help/complain/ad_complaint_form.asp)
I saw it on channel 5 during robot wars! today, sunday 16th november 2003!!

I saw the advert last night and I will be complaining, not only because it trivialises noise nuisance but it also has slightly racist undertones. Me no like it!!!
Isnt this the same company that did that 'open up your chakras' advert that got banned???
I saw it last night
ITV1 9.42pm during reverasal
grrr
the noise issue could of been stopped if they left the lid on the pot but they kept making it playing the music by taking the pot lid off....repeatedly

I haven't seen this but something occurs to me regarding complaining. I'm sure the thing advertisers yearn for more than anything is notoriety. The thing they hate more than anything is an advert that does not sell the product (and thereby make them money).
I'm a little worried that complaints will
1. Draw extra attention to the advert
2. Give them a golden opportunity to brand those who complain as miserable old spoilsports thereby possibly increasing their appeal to the more uncouth elements of society.
3. Controversy may encourage them to try something even more offensive
Just a thought (or two)

there was a tv prgramme about banned adverts the other day that i watched.
i particularly remember the 'open up your chakras' one, where some drippy hippy girl dances around a raw chicken, as i personally found it funny, but i can see why there were complaints.
also the advert where a dog comes out of a blokes mouth, that was truly revolting and deserved to be taken off air...and i cant even remember what product it was for..chewing gum i think.
so althought the product might get a bit of publicity i dont think its the kind of thing that sticks in the memory...not like some of the truly excellent adverts that wont ever be forgotten, like the guiness ads and that truly wondrous:
shake and vac advert!!!!
anyway, i have put in my complaint and had an acknowledgement, at the end of the day sometimes i feel i have to make a stand.
I saw one last night I couldnt believe had got passed the regualtors
it was about enegy saving....now thats one on m things, green and stuff
but
the advert showed blood dripping out of lights, computors air vents extra, saying you are losing your life source of similar to those words, it made me feel quite icky and I am unsure wether to complain because its an important advert about turning your power off when you leave work
but it was yucky....the blood effect really looked like blood
many adverts are withdrawn all the time with no fuss because a few people have complained
and there have alreasdy been complaints about the a*se reference!
BTW this is what I wrote
the advert shows noise from the cooking pot, the young people instist on opening the pot repeatedly to make the music start
the neighbours become destressed and decide to ring the police
noise is a big issue these days and I feel it is being trivalised in this advert
why are the people cooking doing it so late?...the neighbours are already in bed and are going to ring the police
it is the amount of noise these cooking sauce alledges to make, this is shown by the neighbours bed actually moving to the beat of the music.
as someone who has suffered from years of noisey neighbours I am disgusted that I also see it on TV, advertisers need to be more responsible with their messages, this advert is showing it is ok to make noise to disturb others in such an extreme way
I understand the name of this product also means a*se in an asian lanuage, yet its still been allowed to be called this.
Oh April, I was already beginning to giggle at the a*se reference and now you've really set me off!! :hihi:
I'm fair upset I keep missing this ad, I was watching Property Ladder too and yep, I went to make a tea during that particular ad break :( .
At the risk of getting slightly off subject, I was struck by a part of Sweetpea's quotation from the statement of an ITC viewer relation officer:-
"We would assure you that we have withdrawn advertisements in the past which have trivialised this issue and I know through personal experience what a problem noisy neighbours can be."
Is there a positive side to this?
It is a very high profile acceptance of the general issue of neighbour or anti-social problems and the despair that they can cause.
This must strengthen the argument that "they" (the authorities that "we" pay to enforce the law) should be more responsive to genuine complaints.
Best wishes,
Caldas.

Sweetpea, I had exactly the same answer, word for word!!!
I got it too!
with a bit added on as I mentioned the f*rt the name meant a*se!
have considored writing back to the man and asking him to join the forum!!
good idea!
did April do that?....sorry April, head like a sieve today
for anyone interested here is the contact us link for sharwoods!here! (http://www.sharwoods.com/contact/)
I haven't seen it either, but then judging by the fudge everyone's been getting from the ITC, I am prob glad I haven't seen it. :frown:
Isn't there an advertising standards agency (ASA) to complain to or has that all changed now?
I still find it highly bemusing that it means a*se in another language and they get away with it!!

Aw  I got same reply too.
I thought I'd got a nice one from some poor bloke who'd suffered from noisy NFH writing just to me.
The cheek.
I think we should follow this up somehow. Complaint to Sharwoods is a good idea. :)
Do people think it would be interesting to know which adverts they've withdrawn in the past which trivialise the issue of NFH?

OK, I have e-mailed the ITC to ask them which adverts have been withdrawn in the past.
I'll post their reply when I get it. ;)
thanks holly!

hope they do
