You should have seen already that we have a Poll running for a meet in Manchester in April 2004. :D
We also need to do some forward planning for another major meet (probably July 2004) - please pick which place you are more likely to be able to attend.
I am going to hold off voting until you all get voting :D .
If you feel very strongly that a city is not listed and you feel it should be, please send me a PM so that I can include it in the Poll choices. :)
dont forget to vote!
plenty of time till the summer but dont leave it too late!
the last offical meeting was in Leeds, so if any one south of Watford Gap wants a say...... nows your chance to have it!!
we will try to be there where ever it is!
Hi
I voted for Bath. Lovely place and not that far away!
Oooo gone quiet here again!!
get those ticks in those boxes chaps and chapess'!

Beth - it's looking a bit spread out, all over England at the mo.
Have you considered a roadshow??! :D :D
Blue Cow

Yes - he can drive the mini bus
And don't forget he's getting the drinks in too

Okay - that can be a secret for now.

Please keep this Poll alive by voting :D .
I shall refrain from voting until the very last minute.
If it's a toss up between Leeds and another venue, I shall vote for the other one. It doesn't seem fair to have Leeds twice. :)
It's up to all of you! :D
hollygolightly
16-11-03, 02:14 PM
Well Leeds is in first place again  .
Joint second choice for venue: Liverpool or Bedford.
Have YOU voted yet?
If not, please cast your vote!!! :D

We've had more votes in the Poll about whether you like Christmas than where you'd like the next national meet to be  .

It's just an opportunity to get together and meet other members. :)
At the last meet, we just had some drinks and a chat - it was nice to be able to talk to members face to face. :D [I think there was a bit of dancing too towards the end of the night   ]
In the future, we are hoping to have more "structured" meets, but at the moment they are just nice little get-togethers. :)
Must admit April talked me into Leeds meet I just didn,t want to go .On arriving in leeds we went to pub to meet up and as we walked in i said to April wot they look like.Don,t really know she replied one of them has flame red hair.So theres me in massive pub looking for girl with red hair"saph by the way".I went back to the bar and said to April this is bl**dy stupid. When i noticed a group of people staring about at people. What about that lot i said, no said April and it turned out to be Beth,Saph and Holly .the day turned out to be a really good one and everone had agood time plenty of chat beer and laughs
yes the Leeds eeting was fun!! :happyparty:
Schukkkkkssss

I would suggest Birmingham as: It is my home city! (Biased, natch! ;) ) and also it is central to the motorway and the rail network.
There's also a hotel called the Briar Rose which is part of the Wetherspoons Weatherlodge chain which does cheap hotel rooms and great booze and food. It also has rooms which can be rented for private meetings, too. :)
The Briar Rose is also very central as it is only a maximum 5 minute walk from New Street Station.

Great train service to Wales, from Brum! North and Mid Wales direct and South Wales, if you go the Birmingham/Shrewbury then Shrewsbury/Cardiff route. ;)

28-08-04, 05:05 PM
Is there a proposed date for this national meeting?

Brum would be good for us too. As Neighboured says, it's central with good links. I haven't voted on a location yet as I'm waiting to see who can make it to where (just in case  :D ).
Dead exciting! :)

Hi everyone, :)
London is in the lead at the moment, followed by Leeds, then Birmingham but would it make better sense to have a show of hands to see who's intending to meet and then work out a middle ground from everyone's point of view based on where would be most accessible by all parties?
Also, who usually decides 'That's it then!' and sets up a venue and a date? :)
I don't mean to be controversial or anything.
mr ribbit B)
I'd love to go, but gotta admit London is a long way from here, and (dare I say it) expensive by train, which being a 6 hour drive, it'd have to be
Venue permitting though (closer to me!) I'll be there!
Bonkers Mad!!!
06-09-04, 06:32 PM
well i'm really up for going and will try to make it wherever its held ;)

Well, speaking logistically, Birmingham would make a lot of sense.
Centre of England, geographically speaking. Also centre of motorway network and rail network.
Lots of places to go and things to see and do. More miles of canals than Venice, a fantastic art gallary (see the Burn-Jones items! :) ) and lots of decent pubs, too.
Oooh, I love Birmingham art gallery... the Pre-Raphaelite collection is fantastic. There was an exhibition there some years ago and I was flicking through the book I bought there just yesterday... luverly piccies  Nice Egyptian room too.
I used to like the science museum, with the train that moved about six inches every now and then. The tram was my favourite thing... used to collect tram tickets.
Oooh, I've waffled a bit. Go on, make it Brum so I can go back and see the piccies. Go on.

Ditto to all of the above. I used to love the Science museum - lots of buttons to press everywhere - that's the most important thing to an 11 year old boy with his first bus pass you know!
It is central to most places too!

i asked jeeves that last night, he didnt seem to know :hihi:
you guys can always hold mini meets you know if you like, to be honest last years was not to easy to sort  so smaller localised meets would make more sense :) a bigger meet in the future after we win the lottery and we can oragnise the NCB for us all
I have met a few of the members here and its nice to meet face to face, even though we were all staring at each other ages trying to work who was who and if they were in our group!!
if you do meet up let us know how it goes!
edit: Matthew and I have been talking about this this evening and to be totally honest with you guys we really cant organise a big meet this year :( this is due to work commitments and of course the site/forum up grade. we are really sorry that we cant do this this year, time is a precious thing and theres never enough of it!!
if any of you want to do it please do, dont worry you will not be stepping on anyones toes here! in fact you will be helping us out!
I do think that local meets are a great place to start

Us ribbits are up for meets in Birmingham, Hampshire and Brighton ;) (I know the last two aren't on the list but never mind :hihi: ).
If anyone else is game, shall we set dates within the next 4, 6 or 8 weeks. Whadya think :wow:!!

Accoding to the BBC it is on Brennand Farm, near the Lancashire village of Dunsop Bridge.
It isn't really close to any major town or city, sadly... :(

Thanks HN  ,
The bar will be designed by Fusion, which is responsible for Momo, Hush, Cafe Lazeez and The China House, in London.
A Slug and Lettuce spokesman said: "Fusion's quirky but unpretentious style will respond to Brighton's energetic vibe and reflect its characteristics in the design."
Oooerrr modom, sounds a bit happenin' for us. :P I think we're more hot choccie ("extra choc sprinkle please, modom") and choc chip cookie or hobnobs type of people.

Hi FUJ,
The Brighton mini-meet is on the 23rd October. :salut: The more members that can come the better!
Anyone who wants to go should PM ribbit or myself and we'll dish out the details  ;) .
Now the Brighton mini-meet is being sorted, what about the other ones around the country? Is anyone meeting up elsewhere? Birmingham, Leeds, London, Timbuktoo?
mr ribbit B)
so anyone wanting to arrange any more mini meets??
if you all have them on the 23rd October at the same time it will be like a big meet, but split up!

I think this year, there are some mini-meets being arranged by members. It's just an opportunity to meet up with people, that's all. To be as supportive and friendly in person as we all are online.

Sorry everyone, didn't mean to imply everyone should go to Brighton (although it would be nice)! :o :)
I was just putting a reminder on, just in case anyone near Brighton wanted to attend that mini-meet and hadn't spotted the thread yet.
We'd love to go to other mini-meets like Winchester, Newbury and Birmingham - unfortunately Leeds would be too far for us at the moment (although we're near Manchester on the 18th Oct).
It'd also be good to see if any other meetings are happening around the country too as long as someone promises to bring back the 'goss' for alll to hear after the events! ;)

Walked across the road to the beach and walked down and found a nice little restaurant overlooking the sea which let Kevin (my son donned with his baseball cap) and even little Chicken Legs in and gave him a bowl of water too :)
There we sat with Hot Chocolate and coffee and chatted way to our heart content, had such giggle.
Such a lovely day....it all went too quickly of course and the Ribbits had another long journey home. :( BM is probably just home now as I type...so she will post soon and then Ribberty folk with the gorgeous Mr Ribbit driving :drive: might post much later on.
Was so very nice to meet in person....our posts reflect our personalities quite accurately..I wasn't disappointed either  Just a wonderful wonderful day.

LP definately suits her user name (but no strings  ) her "kevin" is a very likeable young chap too and chicken legs is adorable and very well behaved

We agree with LP and BM about their comments for each other :notworthy: and blush considerably about their comments about us!  We think they may have got us confused with another couple from another meet. ;)
We had the honour of meeting two of the most genuine, kind, brave, charming people with wonderfully strong personalities, very much as they are on the forum - just the way we like it! :notworthy: :flowers: It was amazing - the meeting was like an extention of the forum but without typing.
It's a credit to this board that it creates such an open and honest environment that when we met, it was very natural and we soon fell into talking about things that we would do on the board anyway. We were all very grateful for the advice and suggestions given by others throughout our time on the forum and also were grateful to HN for her safety suggestions prior to the meet :flowers: - it all added to the experience and made it that much more fulfilling. :notworthy:
Sir LP is a fine young gentleman and a credit to his Mom. And Chicken Legs... well, ribbit wanted to take him home - what a cutie. :D
We will definitely do this again!

We hope you do have a mini-meet in Manchester JJ. :salut: It was a real success in Brighton.
We think it helps to have some basic ground rules before going though - we found that rather than stifle the mini-meet, it made for a very fulfilling experience. Little things like keeping our screen names was fun (hearing LP shout 'Mr Ribbit' on the sea front was great  ) and also meant it felt like a natural extention of the board, which in turn meant there seemed to be a natural safety in chatting as well, just like on the board.
I personally think that not consuming alcohol when meeting was a good idea too - we all share very deep and emotive experiences and I think alcohol may charge certain subjects if they ever came up.
We can't travel as far as Manchester at the moment but hope to come to another Manchester mini-meet one day. :flowers:
If anyone is planning is a mini-meet in Birmingham or the West Midlands in general, we can make it that far at the moment. :)

Little things like keeping our screen names was fun (hearing LP shout 'Mr Ribbit' on the sea front was great** )
yep  made me grin every time LP called me BM and she just was, well....LP :hihi:
actually, LP gave me a lift back to the station (i know, i know, you shouldn't accept lifts from strangers, but she really wasn't that strange ;) ) and we talked about "The Ribbits". it really was like being on the board and i didnt feel a second of discomfort or any feeling of being with strangers. i'd love to go to another
