09:00 - 12 June 2008

A Neighbour of stabbed former policeman, Geoffrey Harries, has appeared in court accused of his murder.Daniel Marcell Williams, aged 30, was brought before Llanelli Magistrates yesterday, having been charged in the early hours of the morning. His arrest followed an alleged knife attack on Mr Harries outside his mother's home in Trimsaran in the early hours of Saturday, June 7.

Williams's case was transferred to Swansea Crown Court where he will next appear on Friday, June 20, and he was remanded in custody until that date.

Wearing a white floral print shirt and with closely shaved hair, the defendant spoke only to confirm his name and address.

Prosecuting solicitor Peter Lloyd said: "The offence with which Mr Williams has been charged, that of murder, can only be tried before the Crown Court."

He said Williams had been interviewed a total of 12 times between the time he was taken into custody on Saturday and the charges being made against him early on Wednesday.

Speaking for the defence, Steven Lloyd said they would not be making an application for bail and that Williams would remain in custody until his appearance before the Crown Court. As he was led away from the dock, the defendant nodded and smiled at two women sitting at the back of the court.

At the time of his death, Geoffrey Harries was awaiting trial for 15 child porn offences.

He had been scheduled to stand trial at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday, accused of downloading more than 2,000 indecent images of children onto his personal computer.

Police had twice been granted extra time to question Mr Williams, who lived a few doors down from the Dythel Park home of Mr Harries's mother. Mr Harries and his wife had only lived at the Trimsaran address for a matter of weeks, after being hounded out of their Pembrey home by angry residents.

On Tuesday afternoon, workmen were seen installing monitoring equipment around the home of Mr Harries's mother. Neighbours reported devices being attached to the house, thought to be CCTV cameras.

It was previously reported in the Evening Post that indecent images of children were found on Geoffrey Harries's police computer. Dyfed-Powys Police would like to make it clear that was not the case and that the images were found on Mr Harries's personal computer.

whilst we would not condone violence or murder toward another. images of child porn as mentioned is a very sensitive issue for many and can result in people attacking others. some would say ''poetic justice'' has been met. and another off the streets that pose a risk to children. I am sure there are others that see things in a different light. and will be interesting to hear.

Did anyone notice that the cop was the pedophile? I wonder how many other there are in the force? Do they get their recruits from the Diocese?
