We have a Blackbird that seems to have taken over our garden. :) He is (I presume its a 'he') eating cat biscuits and bathing in the natural pond at the bottom of the garden. Lulu my white cat is so laid back she just lays on the patio watching him hop over to the cat bowl (that I leave outside with extra biscuits in) and watches him peck away at them. :)
I was quite anxious that she would go after him but she hasn't made a move all week. This morning he was enjoying a right royal bath in the pond. They must be nesting near by. Does anyone know if Blackbirds nest low as he is in the hedgerow a lot at the bottom by the pond. ... and he sings beautifully.

Another lovely bird story!
Its a male if its very black with an orange beak, the female ones are brown.
They do like a good rummage in the undergrowth, but i dont know if they nest low.
They do sing really beautifully, and i hope for its sake your cat doesnt suddenly realise what she is supposed to be doing and leaves it alone !
my cats dont bother with the bigger birds - we have a few wood pigeons that make free with the cat food, and they go in my pond as well to drink and for a dip and my two fatso's just sit and eyeball them.

Its very big black with an orange beak and we have watched him all week. We put fat balls out Hanging high at the bottom of the garden but all we seem to get are crows? And they demolish them in a couple of hours:rolleyes:
But the Blackbird hop hops all the way down the garden and has a penchant of shrimp flavoured cat biscuits:D Lulu is just too lazy to do anything other than occasionally flick her tail, now Poppy the black one - I will really have to watch her but thankfully she has spent most of this week in the meadows -obviously up to no good;) She is a tart!

Thanks er I love the song its beautiful - thats a great site, Thanks again. :)
How lovely, P :D
I love blackbirds, but not sure about their nesting habits tbh
Oh how wonderful Planet 24, I am getting so envious of you all, birds, foxes, its not fair, we have put out bird seed, bird bath you name, no birds, used to get loads where i lived before, if you got up early at the weekend say 6am you could even hear woodpeckers, and others birds and see them in the garden but here nothing must be NFH scaring them away:( Want to go back and live where i used to live, but no chance Hubby does not like new builds:( but it was lovely going to sleep listening to owls and nightjars and hearing the badgers and seeing bats at night wonderful, and what do i have here, screaming, shouting, loud music and verbal abuse oh dear i am despressing myself now.
Hi P, the blackbirds that tried to nest in my garden made their nest quite low really - at about chest height (and I am not a very tall person!) .
Hope that helps.

I have a very big what I think is a mommy blackbird bouncing around on my lawn and pinching cat biscuits :)
I love BB song too
we have bertie the BB he has spent the last two years in the garden with us with his missus ;)
he is partially albino so we know its him, he has white flashes on his wings....we actually have a lot of partial albino birds around here of differnt species, dont know why though
Bertie will thump on the lawn next to me about 3 feet away and wait for me to chuck worms at him :D he always appears when I am gardening and TBH he is too bold for his won good, I do worry that he will be bold with the wrong person
luckily my cat is very old and has no teeth :D she cant be bothered in chasing bertie or his family ;)
I think its great you are getting to watch your birds p24  and who would have thought...prawn flavor cat biscuits :D
what with SP and jam sandwich foxes and now blackbirds with prawn flavoured treats, what is our wild life coming to  Ahh perhaps that is where are going wrong, the birds don't like bird seed anymore, got a taste for finer things now.
