View Full Version : Mobile phone memory card totally erased
Hi, does anyone have any idea why a mobile phone (new) would suddenly say that there is nothing on the memory card - no sign of a thing despite there being loads of photos and stuff stored previously?
The card and the phone were brand new, bought last week. (Samsung)
Anyone have a clue what's wrong or if it looks like it's faulty? nothing was knocked as the phone locks automatically when it's shut  .
thanks heaps on behalf of a distraught boy  .

Sorry hun, I am about as useful as a chocolate fireguard when it comes to these new fangled things!
Hope you get it sorted though.
Sorry Maz same here and I don't know anyone who is up on these things either. Sorry
Crikey, I have no idea, I am hopeless at techie stuff - how frustrating for you :(
I am sure some of our more techie members will be able to give you some idea though. Good luck :)

Have you tried the memory card in another phone?
Can you try it in your computer some have memory card slots?
Oh thats very annoying  I had a Samsung pink phone touch sensitive J600 last year but took it back because it was faulty, apparently it didn't have the correct downloaded technical data on it  So I changed it for a different phone cos I was fed up with it!
Anyway, what I am leading up to is-whilst I was using the phone one day trying to send a photograph to my son all of a sudden I couldn't find my phone book, it had disappeared completely wiped :o Well I was told that, apparently, because I had been standing in front of our bay window and radiator when a big flash of lightening went off in front of me they reckon it was an electrical storm and that had wiped it  Hmmm a little bit sceptical but really it could have been the only explanation. Had any storms where you are

mazza - try taking the card out while the 'phone is off. Turn the 'phone back on, without the card and then turn off again.
Re-insert card and switch on again. It might work. :)

Silly question, have you had it anywhere near a heat source, Mrs stopper left her sony ericsson near a radiator, and all the pictures on her phone vanished, but after a few days back they came (no I don't really understand why either!), otherwise can the place you bought it shed any light?

Ooo sometihng similar happened to me  I had uploaded files form my phone on to the pC and I pulled the usb cord out too quickly before the programme had finished running.
I turned the phone off and took the card out turned it back on and then put the card back in and all of a sudden it was ok again, mine is a sony ecricson (I think :D )

Phone card memory really is a nuisance, I've got into the habit of saving things I want to keep regularly onto a PC.
If the phone card seemed to be corrupted in the phone after you had it in the PC, try putting the card back into the PC. Check the contents again and make sure when you remove that card from the computer that you eject it safely through the software.
Thanks for the ideas, we tried the suggestions so far and no luck :( .
I just wonder if it needs to go back to the shop - but that's no consolation if he's lost all his photos now  .
Our only hope is that it comes back by some miracle next time he tries to put the card in...

I am presuming it is one of them MiniSD cards, if you have plugged the card into the PC and you cannot retrieve any photos then there is a good chance they are corrupted (have you checked the available space of the card when you have it inserted into the PC? If the available space is zero when there is nothing on it then you would need to format it.) If you need more details on how to do that please feel free to PM me.
Good luck
