on the news today it reported on a study of children and these social sites such as face book and bebo etc

most sites have an age policy of 13 or 14yrs but it appears that this in not enforced and children of 10 and 11yrs are using them, giving out all sorts of personal details

but this alarms me more .....I also found out today through other means that there is actually a web site called school proxy with this welcome message...

Welcome to ischoolproxy.com, our school proxy is created for people like you to bypass restricted sites at school. With our school proxy you will get access to blocked sites like MySpace, Bebo, Facebook and plenty more! The best thing is that we are free and simple to use, so check it out and tell your friends!so parents and teachers alike please pass this on to your friends and work mates
I see no point in trying to protect our children from internet predators and internet dangers when the little darlings have their own proxy websites :(

our children are so busy working out ways of bypassing safety measures that they forget the reason they are there :(

There is simply not enogh protection for young and vulnerable children. My daughter would be so taken in with things like this, I dare not let her near these sites.

No wonder so many kids go missing or end up worse with people like this around letting them lose on sites which are potentially dangerous if used wrongly. Thanks BEth, I shall certainly be warning our school.

Scarily it's normally the kids who work out the ways round the firewalls. we have some of those public interface doo dahs for the council website in reception, and it took one of the kids about five minutes to go through the security and access the net on it. We only found out when someone noticed the naked ladies he had left as a screen saver!

thanks stoney, I think schools need to beawre of these proxy sites so they can ban them....after seeing that Shannon Matthews step father has been arrested for child porn...well its just scary isnt? :(

most of us would do anything to keep our kids safe

One of my lads already told me about this school proxy site - he said one of his classmates used it to get onto Bebo or similar at school.... . I was totally unaware of such things - you think a school would have really robust security, but do they 'eck??

honestly, it really is a minefield out there  .
