Good God does anyone know what chemicals go into air freshener????:(
I purchased one of them tall air fresheners that sprays air freshener into the room every 30 mins or 15 mins. After a while i started sneezing with this and ended up with a very dry throat so i have had to throw it away and it cost me over £5 pounds.
So i then purchased a plug in one that has three different fragrances which change flavour every so often the same happened again the smell was that strong even tho i did have the plug in on low. So had to throw this one away as well.
I am sticking to my candles and joss sticks.
What are we breathing in to me it looks like a loads of disgusted chemicals:(
Anyone else had this problem,,,,,,,,,,

Kebea, thanks for starting this thread.
i really cannot stand air fresheners, I cant believe an investigation hasnt been done as to the effects these things can have on people's health. I bet they are a factor in making asthma increase.
I include those antibacterial surface sprays and Oust type sprays that supposedly 'kill' bad smells.
Whenever I see an advert on the telly for these things I think ' just open the window!'
those things are completely full of chemicals, they may have teeny bits of natural oils in them to make people think they are 'healthy' products but they are not.
I dont like any of them.
like you I prefer to light a nice candle if i want to fragrance the room.
I don't like air fresheners and am a really big fan of scented candles too. I burn them all the time
I also like using things like slices of dried citrus fruits or cinnamon sticks, pine cones etc. etc with orange oil. We have lavender fields near to us & I use lavender oil on bunches of dried lavender - it's gorgeous :).
I hate all air fresheners and I also wonder exactly what goes into them  .
I also think this might be a cynical ploy too - I noticed an advert for 'non-allergic' air fresheners the other day and it made me wonder if they are deliberately adding known allergenic ingredients into their 'normal' range so that people are tempted to buy the new 'non-allergic' range....
I think I'd rather smell a home that smells of wet pets rather than some of those hideous niffs you can buy to perfume your house!!

I agree , some of those things stink to the very hills and if they are really strong they can set a migraine off in me.
I love the smell of scented candles there is nothing nicer, I used to have those plugs in as well, i bought the anti-tobacco, as both hubby and I smoke and they actually worked, but hubby said the smell made him feel ill, so in the bin it went also have one on my car which I like, but when hubby gets in to drive he always turns it off say it "stinks" but i like it and its my car so :pto him. But what i really can't stand is those deironiser things that you buy, now they really give me a migraine.

I cant use air fresheners as I have asthma and even some body sprays start me off.
I do use an oil burner and of course candles....very relaxing.:)

I like the scented candles too, also having real flowers in the house can not only give off a nice scent they are nice to look at too. I liked the scent of orchids. :)

Thank you for all your replies but people go on about smoking smells fumes from cars,,,pollution etc but nothing is mentioned about the air fresheners we purchase to make our homes smell nicer..On reading on the back of air freshener who the heck understands what the chemicals they put in them are i don't.
This should be on the list on smells that are not good for our health
Really the same goes for all the chemicals in washing powders, softeners etc all to make them smell better- we are obsessed with smells today.
