it's addictive isn't it? i've been leaving it on in the background with the sound turned up. the birds make such a racket when something new comes along that theres no need to miss anything good.

i'm glad others are enjoying it, makes me feel better about wasting so much time watching it

Just watching some warthogs drinking and wandering around :)

Im never going to get much done these days waiting for animals to appear :)

The "one tusk" elephant has made an appearance :) :)

Bless him , i could see his other tusk as the camera did a lovely close up of its face as it was drinking :)
Looking at its back leg it has a deformed / bent area around the bottom towards its foot :(

I wonder what the history of him is poor thing

Bonkers Mad!!!
04-03-08, 02:02 PM
that is a very sad elephant :(

i do love those warthogs though

Bonkers Mad!!!
05-03-08, 01:38 PM
if you click on the "elephant plains" link there are big fat buffalo type things lazing in the water. Edit* and a mummy warthog with 2 babies

i still havent seen a lion either

i've been doing some searching on that particular region and Sabi Sands is considered one of the best locations for spotting "the big five" (Lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino). apparently it's not uncommon to see all 5 in one day.
Leopards are the hardest to spot, Rhino are the least likely to show up because they are shy.

the noise we've been assuming is crickets might be chirruping frogs that live along riverbanks and watering holes

there are nearly a 150 species of mammal in the area and we are most likely to see (apart from the big 5), impala (check ;)), baboons and warthog (check).

apparently the best time for seeing stuff is between april and september

tonica
05-03-08, 04:52 PM

In the end the buffalo got fed up of waiting for the lion to move away from the water it chased her!!!!!!

Bonkers Mad!!!
07-03-08, 07:01 PM
thats the only problem with this cam, i worry about everything i see. i definitely don't want to see anything getting eaten. its completely different to watching it on tv isnt it?

Beth
08-03-08, 05:19 PM

Isis
08-03-08, 09:13 PM

tonica

does anyone else think that the water hole has shrunk since we have been watching?

I have been reading on their site (i find it really interesting )
apparently they do have a pipe that runs underground from the lodge nearby incase the water level gets too low so the animals that use it done suffer :)

I saw a brown eagle type bird there this morning :)

Beth
08-03-08, 11:19 PM
Ah thats good  I am glad about that, I would hate for selfish reasons to see them go without water :)

tonica
10-03-08, 03:56 PM
 i know i was relieved when i read that bit :)

Its a bright and sunny day there , nothing like it is here :(

Ive been watching birds , antelope and zebra :)

and have just watched an elephant get a drink and a bath

this horrible weather is a good excuse to stay in and sit here watching the animals come and go :lol:

Bonkers Mad!!!
11-03-08, 04:37 PM

I was watching last night and they had thunder and lightening ....... it was so loud!!

I see the elephants :) that one is definately male then !!!!! lol

Bonkers Mad!!!
13-03-08, 05:29 PM
 did you see that , thats why he doesnt care if his trunk is wonky :hihi:. i wasnt quick enough to get a screenie of it but i did catch him having a poo

to do a screenie you just press the "print screen key" on your keyboard. it captures the whole page, then you just open paint or something like that and paste as a new image. then you just crop the bit you want ;) easy peasy

Bonkers Mad!!!
13-03-08, 05:31 PM
 i just realised you can see it in the "poo" shot

tonica
13-03-08, 05:39 PM

Hi Isis

I have had it on nearly all day today :lol: (my excuse is we have been in all day so that is why i left the cameras on  ) I dont think there has been any problem with it , at least not here !!

Its been a very busy day on the two cameras , a couple of lionesses ( sp!!)
and i have seen a hippo  amongst all the other usual animals that show up :)

Bonkers Mad!!!
26-03-08, 12:44 AM
i saw the Hippo , i sat looking at the EP camera for ages and ages trying to spot it and then the water moved  then later on it came out. well worth waiting for. most of the people i know don't understand the addiction to it. my mum said, "well you're not actually taking real pictures of the animals". OHO! yes i am . its way better than anything thats on the telly , i am completely obsessed . i didnt move an awful lot before africam, now i don't move at all in case i miss something :hihi:

Isis
26-03-08, 12:07 PM
