Well, not really in my belfry, but I think there was a little bat flying round and round my garden the night before last. It was quarter to 5 in the evening, so dusk, and I had just brought the recycling bin in and went to the back of the house to check all was ok there, and I noticed this very small very quick black creature darting about changing direction very very quickly. I wouldn't have seen it only I was standing listening to all the birds singing their goodnight, 10 minutes later all the birds were silent - it was pretty dark by then - and the little black creature was still flying around. I wanted to have a look for it last night but it was too dark to see by the time I got home. Will be the same tonight :(

Any ideas how I can find out if it really is a bat? This could be very useful if property developer who was denied planning permission at end of last year re-applies this year ;):D

Hi Lotus eater:)

I think bats are protected arent they? We used to have them fly round at night in the field by our old house.

I found this website - it may give you the info you need

I LOVE BATS, it think they are soooooooooooo cute:wub::wub::wub:, yeap I know I am mad we used to have a couple where i used to live, I could watch them for hours, I think you will need to get in touch with the Bats Conservation Trust, www.bats.org.uk (http://www.bats.org.uk) if not they will tell you who to contact, I think the most common are the pipistral bat, they are quite small but if you do have bats they may make your area a conservation area which means no development at all but if they are nesting in your house, you cannot get rid of them as that would be against the law i think. Lucky you.:D I am sooooo jealous, used to see badgers, nighjars, hear the owls, see bats and hear woodpeckers it was heaven down there really miss it.

Thanks for the links Sparrow and Isis.

I think bats are cute too. I was really happy to see this little fellow whizzing about and I really hope he is a bat.

I will check out the web links and see what I can find out.
