View Full Version : Scented candles
I really love scented candles and the ones I use are fantastic and really do work with a huge variety of fragrances that last for hours. The only trouble is I get through them quite quickly and they are not cheap [Yankee Candles]
Can anyone recommend any scented candles that really do work and you can actually smell what they are supposed to be  that don't cost an arm and a leg?
I was trying to find an independent 'cottage style industry' scented candle maker that sells on the internet but it is really hard when you have no recommendations to go on, and some other makes I have tried are just rubbish
Does anyone have any recommendations? Or does anyone know a cheaper outlet for Yankee Candles?:rolleyes:

I use Yankee and get them from QVC which makes them a bit cheaper.
These are also quite good but again not cheap. http://www.purearoma.co.uk/files/sub_cat.php?cid=9
Thanks for that P24 :) I might have a try of those.
I must admit one of my sisters is always telling me to get the Yankee Candles from QVC, which is what she does, but I never know when their shows are on and always forget to check and then miss it
I've got so many favourites at the moment it gets too expensive, but I am trying out some of the wax tarts now that I bought today which are very much cheaper, but a tea light is not quite the same as seeing a nice candle flickering away

If you go onto QVC's uk web site and google Yankee candles a whole list comes up of whats in stock. You can order even if they are not on air.
It's just when they are on you get more choice.
I always have some burning, it helps to relax.:)

Me too!!
Have some burning right now and yes, they really are very relaxing. They always make me feel calmer :)
Thanks for the QVC tips too :D
Matalan used to sell quite nice scented candles - mainly floral or vanilla, lavender, rather than the yankee candle (chocolate/food/cinammon) types.
They were very cheap and the scents were nice and clean. i haven't seen them for a while though...

Sorry picked up this thread a bit late, have you tried partlite, they are really good value also i think it is about £10 for a dozen tea lights and £10 for voltives. There holders are so beautiful, but there is a drawback, they only sell them at parties, so you have know someone whose is having a party or have one yourself, you can get in touch with them on the web and they will forward your details to your local rep (for want of a better word):)

I use yankee candles and get them from QVC - I have quite a big stash at the moment cos I bought a couple of sets from them when they were 'todays special value'
I have a few 'lilyflame' candles as well that are really good - i am sure you can get them from the internet somewhere, i got mine at craft fairs.
if you ever go to centerparcs you can get nice scented candles from their shop, they have their own brand that are rather good, but they also sell Yankee candles and lots of other makes.
also if there is a shop called 'The Range' near you - they have loads of candles, but beware, some of the cheap ones are a false economy, as the scent is so naff.
I always get my candels from Partylite, the only problem is that you either have to have a party or know someone having a party, if you can get in touch with them via their web site, they will get a rep to call you. They are not that expensive, and are very good value and they really perfume the house nicely, we can smell them and we both smoke.
Sp- QVC are doing a yankee candle hour today - 9 pm I think. They are possibly having a special value day on the 9th Feb too.
There's some sort of 'deal' today on sets of jar candles - it still seems pretty pricy though...in the region of 40 quid for about 8 jar candles, press your red button, then 1 and look at 'Hot Picks' or maybe go online if you are interested :) .
 Oooooooohh, thanks for telling me Mazza :D
I shall have a look at that, they may be cheaper than the shops round here.
I have to say that so far I have not found anything round my way that comes anywhere near as good as Yankee Candles :( Also their range is huge and covers just abour every fragrance going :)

You do pay for quality with scented candles.
Whats your favourite one, SP?
Whats your favourite one, SP?
I have lots of favourites
It depends on my mood oddly enough - and the time of year :lol: but I love all the fruity ones - mango is my current favourite fruit one, but I have orange, lemon & granny smith apple too.
I am still trying the florals - fresh cut roses is really strong :o you can smell it all over the house. At the moment though I am burning lemon lavender which is lovely :D
I also like vanilla, roasted coffee, chocolate chip cookie [now retired :(] creme brulee etc
I have bought some little wax tart burners in clean cotton, mint, and baby powder fragrance but haven't used them yet
At Christmas - I go crazy with all the seasonal fragrances
Bet you're glad you asked now, Annabel :rolleyes:
What is your favourite?
you could always try making your own  fun but messy and you can play with what scents you want, and if you make loads you could give them away next Christmas :D

Funny you should say that Beth  but we did use to make our own.It was years and years ago before we had a family but I think we still have the moulds in the loft somewhere ^_^ The downside was it was messy and you had to be patient.
I just looked on the QVC website and the prices are much better than elsewhere :D The only trouble is you can't pick and choose your fragrances I don't think - I may be wrong though. I will def try to watch it at 9pm and see what they have to offer though

The clean cotton one is very nice, I have a rose one as well and its really nice, and I dont normally like rose fragrance.
I have two though that are really nice - Cypress and Blackcurrant and Fig. they are loooovely.
a friend of mine had a pink lemonade one which actually smelt 'fizzy'
i got a set of candles over xmas, they were all nice, i gave a couple of them to my dad and he is still burning them! (i put mine away to save them for next xmas).
i have a few car fresheners by yankee candles as well and they really make a nice change from the usual insipid choices that are just nasty chemicals anyway.
heheheh now i have gone on about them as well!
It's funny, because I don't normally like rose fragrance either, but it is lovely.
I think I have got blackurrant and fig - got a feeling I was given that one for Christmas but haven't started it yet
You can get a leather fragranced car freshener which mrsp has in his car and it is nice.
Ooh, I need to go and light some more candles now I've started talking about them
Do you have any of the accessories - the shades and stuff?
a friend of mine had a pink lemonade one which actually smelt 'fizzy'
Sainsburys sell a lemonade scented candle its really rather nice its priced around £3.49 :)
My daughter bought some candles off the net, they are gorgeous, this is the link.

sp - when I bought the christmas TSV from QVC, it came with lots of bits and pieces, shades and votives. they are very good quality and ill be getting them out every year. its the bits like that that they give you on QVC that makes the candles quite agood bargain, i think.
:D Thank you for the link LLie - I could be very tempted by those :D

Hi Everybody,
I have tried tons of different candles but to no avail,,,i do find cheap candles no good as some of the scents last for around 2-3 Min's then disappear.
Yankee candles i have found are the best and last a long time if you purchase the big size ones around £16.99 each i do understand they are very expensive they last for ages and as i burn them for one hour then blow them out the scent lasts the whole evening.
Thanks for that link LLie. There are some good gigt ideas there:)
