Something has been bugging me for a while now.

Lately, we have been told that you must not leave things on standby but turn it off. Now I agree, that's wasteful so I don't leave anything on standby.

But now I hear that you shouldn't leave phone chargers plugged in overnight as that is wasteful too.

I switch the appliance off at it's switch (not the socket) . If it's a phone charger, I switch it off at the socket.

What I want to know is...

1. does electricity still flow even if the 'battery is full' on the phone & the charger is still connected?

2. does electricity still flow even if the phone is removed from the charger and the charger is left on?

3. do you have to physically remove the charger from the plug - doesn't just switching the socket off stop the electricity?

4. If you switch an appliance off at it's own switch (rather than at the socket it's plugged in) does electricity still flow?

I am soo confused so apologise if these questions seem a bit dense!!!

Switching off at the socket stops the flow

No.
