A combined stun gun-MP3 player may well be the most bizarre gadget to be unveiled at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

The device's stun gun fires a 50,000-volt electric charge, and can hold 1GB of musicThe device - formally known as the Taser Music Player Holster - has already earned the nickname the iTaser.
The manufacturers hope the gun will be particularly popular among women, and have made it available in available in "red-hot" red, "fashion" pink and even leopardskin print for customers who are as style conscious as they are safety conscious.
"These new product are a result of listening to our customers. Personal protection can be both fashionable and functionable," said Rick Smith, founder of Taser International.
"A lot of women aren't going to go into a gun store and feel comfortable enough buying a Taser, so now we have some outdoor companies and dealers - some cellphone places are starting to carry them and hang them next to phones."

Mr Smith says he hopes women who are reluctant to take a standard Taser gun out in their handbag will be happier to carry the "iTaser" around with them when they are out of the house.
The device's stun gun fires a 50,000-volt electric charge. But the ampage of the shock the victim receives is as low as 0.00.21 amps, hence its popularity with police forces around the world as a non-lethal incapacitation tool.
The built-in MP3 player can store 1GB of songs.
Around 7,000 of the designer C2 Tasers have already been sold in the US, according to reports.
It is illegal for members of the public to fire stun guns in Britain, although they are used by many police forces to detain aggressive suspects.
Amnesty International claims the guns have been linked to more than 70 deaths in the US, although the American authorities do not consider Tasers to be firearms.

Personal protection can be both fashionable and functionable

And also very dangerous in the wrong hands especially if used for the opposite reason to its intended purpose as in stun a victim before robbery or worse :(

This is something very similar to a product sold in the US called Viper Defender, sold for under $100 :eek:and is I believe currently under investigation as some have been shipped worldwide. They are not allowed in the UK.
They offer a 950 000 volt shock :eek:and can be deadly in the wrong hands.

i find these things quite disturbing , it is still a weapon and in a panic could be taken off you and used against you as any weapon could
i think an update with our stupid laws would do better :/

It's probably worth pointing out that Tazers and stun guns are illegal in Uk, that most manufacturers will not ship to UK, and that Customs head off 90+% of the ones that are sent here, hot pink or not, these are yet another example of how our colonial cousin's have a tendency to "Friendly up" this kind of thing. Many moons ago I had a very fetching Browning riot gun with baby blue furniture ( A la Natural Born Killers) it made a lot of Police officers laugh a lot.

Seriously though, as Nick Ross say's "Don't have nightmares"
