Christmas is approaching fast, HELP. Does anyone know a online shop that, I could buy a decent hamper from.

It's the dreaded first christmas dinner, for my partners parents. The hamper I am after must have a three in one bird, such as chicken, goose, turkey. Any ideas?.

Good morning Blue Cow, how are you today. On the subject of names, I choose Goosegirl because we used to have pet geese. I've not seen any Blue Cows in fields yet, or am I missing something.

Talking about hampers ... do you need one? Just buy the ingredients yourself and 'voila' Christmas dinner .. easy.

(OK .. OK ... I make roast dinners and X-mas dinners all the time for my family .. well, not the X-mas dinners, they are only once a year obviously .... but if I can do it, so can you ... :) )

how about you try fortnum and mason or harrods. if you cant get what you want from them, theres no hope!

of course, make sure you have plenty of ££££££'s to spend.

Hi GG

Morning

Yes, you probably wouldn't see any Blue Cow's in fields, as they are usually found hanging around bus-stops or flying planes etc

I generally travel by car these days, so I haven't seen any either.

Thanks for asking though

Blue Cow

PS. if you don't know any pre-schoolers, this post is probably going to confuse the heck out of you!!

PPS. .......still wondering what a three in one bird is!!! ;)

Blue Cow,

A three in one bird is a large bird, with two other birds stuffed inside it. Each bird slightly smaller than the last.

I am still suffering from having to watch repeats of shrek, thankfully my niece is getting bored with it.

I will be cooking for seven of us, in total. My partners parents, and his Chinese brother. And my sister and niece, and us of course.

The worst part of this is knowing, that several years ago I watched a cookery programme. And it told me everything I needed to know. That was were I got the idea from, but can I remember, no.

Its all down to timing GG.

Get everything prepared beforehand, then pop it in the oven/hob so that it all comes out at the same time (except the meat, which should stand for a little while before carving, but lets not get too complicated - though if you do want to make it complicated, you can start preparing things at different times so they cook at the appropriate time - this allows you a bit of 'slack time' to lay the table, drinka bottle of wine etc)

Thanks for that FF, how is the house hunting going?, hope you find the perfect one for you. I like the old houses, they are bigger, I suppose it depends on how much work you wish to do to it.

Might manage big turkey - medium chicken -tiny, tiny quail

I was thinking large ostrich, medium penguin, small hummingbird.

Is that with cranberry sauce?

HO, HO, HO,

I would rather roast my NFH. Over a open fire. It's illegal to kill them, mores the pity.

Instead of poultry and game, how about biiiig slabs of meat

e.g. Beef joint covered in lamb sausages, wrapped in pork belly, covered in bacon ? mmmmmmm

Annabel we love vegatarian dishes. But my partner likes his meat, as he has allergies to certain vegatables. And the other relations are stuck on tradition.

I saw a demo of this boning thing a few years ago. Not as difficult as it sound, but definitely not for the squemish. The end result though is quite impressive

Yes, keep things simple ;)

Don't be worrying this year about the turkey rush / cooking times / stuffing / bones / those never ending turkey sandwich leftovers etc. Take it easy on yourself, put your feet up, have a glass of wine or two :wine: and tuck into a cranberry and chestnut roast.

You can cook it the day before, and just heat on Christmas day along with your roast potatoes :newyear: Somewhere I have a great recipe and will dig it out if I can find it.

;)
