Just after some advice and recommendations please.

We've just seen a Sky place offering Sky+ at £49 - I suspect for the box, don't know if it included installation fee, but we didn't have time to call and ask. On the website it's currently £99 for the box and £15 installation, special offer as it's normally £30.

Is it worth getting? I quite often miss things on Sky I'd like to watch and thought Sky+ would be a good way of watching what I want, when I want, so I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has it, and what you think. Also has anyone heard of this £49 offer or any other offers on getting it installed

I've seen the Sky + offer on a stand in our shopping mall, but I think installation is extra.

However  we only got Sky + ourselves about 4 months ago and it is really good  and as far as we are concerned well worth the extra.

I never did get the hang of VCRs  or DVD recorders, and then you have to store them etc but with Sky + everything you record is all in one place, and even I can do it it is so easy :rolleyes:. I'm very excited that next week we can record Come Dancing while watching X Factor as I normally miss Come Dancing or turn over in the ad breaks and catch bits of it.

You can also 'freeze' live TV which is great, except Mr sp keeps on doing that which can be a tad annoying

I would say, it sounds a good price, but regardless of the price it is definitely well worth getting and we wished we'd got it sooner ourselves :)

SKY+ is great and I think personally it's worth it, but I spose it all depends on your point of view/priorities. :)

For instance - pausing live TV is very handy (come back to it later and wind on adverts or nip to the loo!) and the 'series link' on the recording programmes option is very useful so you don't miss future episodes as is the whole TV guide/planner, etc.

Recording 2 channels at the same time is also pretty handy stuff and being able to record one/watch another at the same time etc. Multi-room is good too so you can watch different channels (e.g. while in bed) to that of your main TV.

Overall, I feel it's worth it and the price seems pretty reasonable too. B)

PS: Like SP says, recording is much easier and unlike VCR you can see when and what it is recorded on screen so you know where you are with it all, etc.

It will be the best televisual decision you ever take ;) the subscription is free if you get the HD box as well, which is a little more expensive to buy, but is also well worth it.

I am looking into getting sky + too. I see it's 49 quid for a box if you subscribe to multi room...then you pay an extra tenner per month on top of the usual monthly sub for the multiroom subs. Maybe I'll get it for a crimbo pressie to me :D .

Multi room would be great for me as I love the radio and the reception on FM and AM here (no DAB either) is diabolical...I'd be happy to pay an extra tenner to get decent reception in my own room!

I find it very handy, I used to get soooo annoyed when I would watch the first few parts of a series then forget to record the rest and now if I watch somethink I like I just series link it and it records the whole lot I dont have to remember it does it for me

I do shift work so it fab and no messing with video tapes either,

I have multi room, so have extra disc space and you can swap the boxes around so if for example you have recored a film on the bedroom box coz you were out of room on the lounge box or you were already recording 2 things on the lounge box, you can switch the boxes round so you are more comfy etc

Thanks for the recommendations, we now have Sky+

Just have to learn how to use it now! I think I've sussed the record thing but how to watch a programme, storing things and taping a series I've yet to learn

Blimey, that wuz quick!

Did you get multi room too??

Actually, when I think of it, I HAVE to have Sky + soon...I can't be bothered to watch hardly anything on the satellite channels (although there's plenty of interest) as I find the ad breaks way too long, too frequent and way too infuriating, so this will do away with it totally...Hmm!!!

:D It's great, isn't it?
It's so easy to use and no need to store videos/dvd's

It comes into its own with X Factor up against Strictly Come Dancing

We seem to be having a problem with Sky + so I'm after picking your brains (any engineers, or those of you who have it)

We've had it a week now and hubby is obsessed with looking at the signal strength and quality, and has noticed quite a few times, on input 2, the signal strength and quality disappears, and it says "not locked" instead of "ok". Sometimes it's brief but sometimes, for a longer period, when it happens, we can't record (Top Gear did not record on Sunday and when we checked the system, input 2 had this "not locked" and no signal). We've rung Sky who gave us a few things to do but it;s still doing it, hubby has been on the internet and checked leads, connections etc but to no avail - any ideas? Does anyone else's do it?

One of hubbys mates had this and had Sky out 7 times to fit a new box, LNB, all sorts, turned out the pole with his dish on was slightly loose - but hubby has checked and tightened ours today and it's still happening

Sorry, Eeyore, we've never had that happen, so I can't help. How frustrating

It is - Mr E is driven insane, he's been up ladders, unplugging cables as Sky told him to do, and I think he's a bit sick - at least it's not raining, he did it in the rain yesterday

Oh blimey is it because of bad reception?

Found this on Digital Spy - might be of some help?

WARNING - following this advice is totally at your discretion and anything which happens to your digibox as a result is your responsibility.
You will lose all recorded programmes from your Sky+ Planner.
Sky tech support can talk you through performing a system restore over the phone. To do this yourself, press 'services' on your Sky plus remote, then select option 4. Next press 0, 1, select - you should now see the engineer's menu. Choose option 8, 'Full System Reset'. The box will now take a few minutes to reset itself.
Try pausing or recording again, and if the problem persists disconnect the digibox from the mains power. Press and hold the 'left' and 'right' navigation buttons on the front of the digibox whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding the buttons in for about 20 seconds, and when the ring of light on the front comes on, press the 'select' button on the front of the digibox (between the left and right buttons you were holding). The Sky+ recording logo lights will spin backwards and, according to the Sky engineer, this will "clear the hard drive".
Once this is done, disconnect the digibox from the mains power again and this time press and hold the 'back up' button whilst you reconnect the mains power. Continue holding it for about 15 seconds until 3 lights on the front of the box come on and you get a full-screen message saying "Updating system software. Do not disconnect mains supply or satellite dish."
Leave the digibox doing its thing for about 10 minutes and it should be fixed! Try pausing and recording things again.

We are having Sky plus and multi room fitted on monday!! The kids are so excited (and me  !!!) cos they can watch cartoons upstairs :D!!! They are easily pleased my two!! Its costing £45 for the box and £30 to have it fitted and then £21 a month for it which includes phone calls - so we will stay on BT for line rental and broadband but get the free calls with sky - which isnt bad for saying we were paying about £17 a month for sky anyway.

When it works, it is great

We're still having problems, keep ringing Sky who say check this and that which we have done - if it goes not locked and stays like that now, I pull out the power cable for 15 seconds then plug it back in - that seems to work!

 is it sorted now? Seems such a shame as it's so new  .

It's intermittent, some days it's fine and some days it goes off - so I unplug it and let the hard drive reset

It did record Saturday Night Takeaway ok!
