I know it's a little early for Christmas, but I know a lot of people use these savings clubs to save up for Christmas presents and the like. I wondered if there was a better way of doing it?

After all those people lost their christmas money last year through a certain well known savings club, are there are any effective ways to put away a little each month ready for December?

Why no do as I do and just put a little away each month in a savings account of your own, there are many to choose from and some offer reasonable rates of interest. They can be set up online with many of the high street banks/building societies and money can be paid in by direct debit. That way YOU get any interest paid on the account instead of it going to a large company.

our local credit union do a "C" savings account  I have never used it myself but I know of people who swear by it

appartently you can only take out your C savings at a certain time in advance and it really helps :)

the interest is ok too, not great but ok :)

Some of my loose change goes into a 'parking charge purse' that I keep in the glove box (took me years to get that organised  ) I suppose it could go into a 'C' pot. It's a very old-fashioned way of saving money, but oddly, it seems to work.

I love buying presents for friends and relatives when I see something that they'd like, no matter what time of year it is. All Ihave to do when it comes to Christmas or birthdays is remember where I put them.

I usually try and buy all the cards/wrapping paper in the week after Christmas and then its cheaper and done with.
I buy things all the year round - except chocs etc. I always buy a few extras too. Its handy because if a birthday is suddenly sprung on you - you've always got something suitable

Every year I try and do one of the supermarkets saver stamp cards - the stamps are a pound each. So you can save about £100 on each card (asda and morrisons do them dont know about others) I usually save about £3 and forget Ive got them  Im determined to do it this year though! So I can spread the cost rather than everything in the last couple of weeks before christmas. I have decided that when we get back from holiday in september Im going to start gettting bits and putting them away fro presents etc! :) We ll see ;)

I prefer to save a little each month and shop where I want to shop with the money. Aren't the prices of these savings clubs expensive?
