Big Bro Housemate Axed Over Race Slur

Updated: 10:57, Thursday June 07, 2007
A Big Brother housemate has been booted out by Channel 4 after using a racially offensive word.

Contestant Emily Parr was removed from the house in the early hours of this morning after using the word "n****r".

Emily has been booted out

The news follows the controversial Celebrity Big Brother race row involving Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd, Jo O'Meara and Shilpa Shetty.
In the latest scandal Emily was dancing with Charley and Nicky in the living room of the Big Brother house at approximately 8.30pm last night.

She was heard to say "Are you pushing it out you n****r?" to Charley.

Emily made clear that she had not intended to offend and that the comment had been meant as a joke.

In discussing what she had said, Charley and Nicky agreed that they were not personally offended, although both did express shock at the language she had used.

Angela Jain, who heads the Big Brother commissioning team at Channel 4, said: "I think people watching the show tonight will agree that Emily spoke carelessly rather than maliciously.

"She understands why her involvement in Big Brother has had to come an end and she very much regrets what she said.

"The word n****r is clearly racially offensive and there was no justification for its use.

"We have removed Emily from the house to once again make it clear to all housemates and the viewers at home that such behaviour won't be tolerated."

In a statement the Commission for Racial Equality said: "We're relieved that Channel 4 has acted quickly.

"This incident will show everyone that racism must never be tolerated in any way, shape or form."

Sily, silly, girl!

Racist remarks, comments and taunts are never acceptable in any situation and she deserves it - but she would probably have won over Shabnam on Friday's evictions.

Serves her right, she'll learn the hard way. :bb:

According to Michelle Gayle on Loose Women it's a term often used in certain circles and types of music but IMO it's insulting and not acceptable, why on earth did she say it? Stupid girl

Yes, young black lads especially are ''reclaiming'' the use of the word but it is still offensive esp to the older generation.

It certainly is not the kind of language a posh middle class brat who thinks she's cool should be using!. Idiot girl, good riddance :bye: .

No derogatory term should be acceptable racist or otherwise. If less people opened their mouths just to change feet the world would be a happier place to live in.

I thought BB acted correctly in removing Emily from the house. Whether meant in jest or not, she said it, and it offended people, so they acted appropriately.

What I didn't like was Charley then going on and on and on about it to anyone that would listen still maintaining she 'didn't want to talk about it and was not offended'.

I don't condone any sort of racist behaviour. It's totally unacceptable, and she needed to go on the strength of that.

Theres a story in the Sun today saying this girl that was booted out was very disrespectful on a school trip to Auschwitz :(They were told to be solemn and quiet and she tried to have a snowball fight with somebody :o And its not the first time she has made racial remarks to someone.

She was very silly to use that word, especially after what happened in Celebrity Big Brother. I haven't been very impressed with what I've read about her anyway, boasting on My Space about taking drugs. Not impressive at all.

It certainly is not the kind of language a posh middle class brat who thinks she's cool should be using!. .

thats what I thought, she said oh we use this word all the time at home, with whom I wonder??

I cant imagine her getting down with the gangbangers innit?
she just does'nt look like the stereo typical type  and she said she likes indie music, no mention of rap or other urban music

she was very foolish, and a lot of people find the word offensive as has already been said here,

hope she learns from this
