My eldest son was in respite this weekend, so I decided to take my younger son to the Cheddar Gorge. What a fantastic day out :D He enjoyed every minute of it...and it wasn't too expensive either :D
He loved Cox's cave and Jacob's Ladder. We picked up a couple of rocks on the way back to the car, and he is still talking about it now. I bought him a souvenier book and he shows it to everyone
There was so much to see, and loads of interesting little shops. We took an open top bus ride too, and he had never been on one before.
What an excellent day out...but it did take me a couple of days to recover from walking up the 274 steps of Jacob's Ladder :hihi: Couldn't make it to the top of the tower though...we both got scared half way up, so turned back

Hi there Tristar, I remember going to Cheddar a couple of times when I was a kid and I was blown away by it. I loved all those caves, and wookey Hole. we didnt go up jacobs ladder cos my mum refused point blank (she was scared of heights, not to metion very unfit). i remember throwing a strop once because i wanted to go and have a cream tea and my parents didnt...but i got all worked up about it and wouldnt give in. i must have only been about 8/9 and had no idea what a cream tea actually was!!! my dad bought copious amounts of scrumpy to bring home, but no cheddar, funnily enough...wonder why???
great place. must take my own girl there sometime. mind you i desperately want to go to the eden project as well. it sounds amazing.

:D
oh, and talking of top days out, I took my daughter to the Hampton Court Flower show and it was WICKED!
We parked a mile or so away and then got bussed in on an open top bus. when we got to hampton court we then got on a boat down the river for a mile to the entrance. my daughter would have been happy to come home after that as she got so excited at the bus and the boat. it was one of the best days i have had for a long time and i can totally recommend it. it does cost to get in , but it is so worth it.
it was really hot that day, and loads of people were paddling their feet in the ornamental lakes in front of the palace. i could just imagine henry viii seeing us and having our heads chopped off for tainting his water!!!
anyway i should be working naughty me, tata :P

Sounds like your son had a fantastic time, tri :) So it wasn't just a day out it was educational as well. I used to love it if we took the kids anywhere and it sparked an interest in them. Sometimes sparked an interest in me too ;)
There's a great place near Machynlleth in Wales, The Centre for Alternative Technology. Our kids loved it :) So did I :)

Cheddar Gorge is just amazing, innit? I love it there. :D
My head doesn't even go far back enough to be able to take a decent piccie of it!
We took our son when he was a toddler into the caves and he was terrified - cried all the way but when we got out we asked him if he'd enjoyed it and he said yes!!!!!
Silly billy :hihi:

The CAT (Centre for Alternative Technology) near Machynlleth is a great place for a day out.
You'll come away with dozens of ideas and you can ride on a water-powered cliff railway and see wind and solar energy being sold to the National Grid.
Have a look at their website at CAT (http://www.cat.org.uk)
