British media regulator Ofcom has slammed the U.K. version of CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER over its handling of a controversial race row in January (07).
The watchdog ruled today (24 May 07) that the show's broadcaster Channel 4 made "serious editorial misjudgements" during this year's controversy-plagued series, which saw Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty being subjected to alleged racial bullying by fellow contestants Jade Goody, model Danielle Lloyd and singer Jo O'Meara.
Ofcom have ordered Channel 4 to broadcast a summery of the findings at the start of Big Brother's new series next Wednesday (30 May 07).
The show's creator, Endemol, said it accepted Ofcom's findings and "sincerely regretted the level of offence caused by events in this series".
They added, "We are grateful to Ofcom for recognising that the events of this series were in no way engineered or manufactured." In the show, Goody referred to Shetty as "Shilpa Poppadom" - while Lloyd told the actress to "f**k off home."
