Did you ever watch 'Last of the Mohicans'? The one with Daniel Day Lewis as Hawkeye? The actor who played Chingachcook, a man called Russel Means is a Lakota Sioux. I've just listened to an internet radio prog in which he is featured. Wow, he is a fascinating man.
He was talking about matriarchal societies amongst other things. We live in a patriarchal society. If you have a couple of hours to spare I thoroughly recommend this interview.
