I saw this the other day but cant find the link now

but did you know......

the average family pours 18 different types of toiletries down the drain each week

so I thought, that can tbe right then I looked in my bathroom and was quite disgusted with my family!

shampoo
conditioner
bars of soap
liquid soap
shower gel
bubble bath
shaving foam
toothpaste
mouthwash
body scrub
hair dye
hair removal cream
talc

then you have to clean the bath/shower etc
so that is bath cleaner, toilet duck etc

then loo paper, hair, some sanitary items, nail clippings (dont ask)

then there is the stuff you wash off your skin

deodarant
hair gel
talc
moisturiser
perfume
aftershave

and I though Blimey!! I am putting all this stuff into our eco system and I am ashamed :(

so I will reduce the amount of products I have in the house and use less of them when I do use them

I already use the ecover cleaning products so that is one thing I guess

no wonder our water network and water wildlife is struggling though

what about you?

Fortunately few people, these days, mix the cleaning products that produce chlorine gas. IIRC I think it was 'Vim' and 'Domestos'. I recall many people in the late 60's and early 70's being caught out by that.

Because we live on a boat, everything we use in terms of showers or washing up goes straight into the canal, so we have to be very careful what we use as we don't want to pollute the water.

We have toilets which collect the waste in a tank which then gets pumped out, so we only use the really cheap stuff from supermarkets for loo roll as it breaks up easier and causes less problems. We don't use bleach etc either, and funnily enough a bit of white vinegar and lemon juice really does work and cleans really well.

We probably use quite a few products though like:

Shaving foam
Soap
Shampoo (or in our case, johnsons baby shampoo which works for everyone)
Toothpaste
Eco washing up liquid
