A group of women who forced two toddlers to fight and filmed them punching each other until they cried have escaped jail.

The four women, all from the same family, goaded the youngsters to hit each other in the face, and when one did not fight they called him a "wimp" and a "faggot".
The fight was filmed on a home video recorder and was found by chance by a person who reported it to social services.
All four, who earlier pleaded guilty to child cruelty, were given 12-month sentences suspended for two years at Plymouth Crown Court, Devon. They are Zara Care, 21, Carole Olver, 48, Serenza Olver, 29, and Danielle Olver, 19, all from North Prospect, Plymouth. During the fight, both children - a boy and a girl - were at different times reduced to tears and were shouted at to carry on. At one stage the boy was cheered for using a magazine as a weapon and repeatedly hitting the girl around the head, and later a hairbrush was thrown in to the room for them to use.
Passing sentence, Judge Francis Gilbert said he found the film "shocking to watch", adding: "You laughed at them, you mocked them, you swore at them.
"You compelled them to hit each other even though they clearly did not want to. You were cruel, callous, clearly causing the children to hurt each other for your own pleasure."
Care pleaded guilty to causing or procuring the children to be ill-treated in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury and was sentenced to 12 months for each child, to run concurrently and suspended for two years. Danielle, Serenza and Carole Olver pleaded guilty to jointly inciting the ill-treatment of children and were each sentenced to 12 months for both children, also to run concurrently and suspended for two years.
The fight was filmed on a home video recorder and was found by chance by a person who reported it to social services. Investigating police officers described the footage as shocking and said that all of those who had seen it were stunned.

I was lost for words when I read the article - what is wrong with these people?? They are sick in the head, otherwise I have no explanation for this behaviour!
Some people let their dogs fight, now some let their children fight... what comes next?

I couldn't believe it when I read that they video-ed the fight. It only came to light because someone saw the video and reported them.
Does that mean they were lending out the video to show people? That to my mind is as bad as the 'snuff' videos of the 90's.
IMO the kids should be in care and would have a chance of a decent life, what chance have they got if these people are their carers and role models.

No wonder the country is in deep trouble if you can do this and get away with it ....what next?

My sister has just told me the grandmother who they are in the care off was present at the time of the fight. I really think they need to be somewhere else. What a horrid start in life.

With the culture of happy slapping in this day of society, to be honest, this didn't shock me as much as I thought it should :(

I read about this the other day.

The children are in the care of their Father who at the time of the video was serving in Iraq. He came home and picked up the children for his weekend access (their Mother had dumped him by text message a few months previously) and he took the video camera so he could get some film of the children at his parents house.

He then saw the video and was physically sick, it was him who alerted Social Services. The women involved were the children's "Mother", "Grandmother" and two "Aunts". Their surname ironically was Care.

The judge sentenced them to a years suspended sentence and 100 hours community service. The "Mother" has lost permanent custody of the children and will never get them back.

According to the "Aunt" they were trying to "toughen up" the children.

On the same day a man was sentenced to 6 months for arranging Pit Bull Terriers fighting. I am not saying he should have got off, his sentence isn't enough in my opinion, but how could the other judge let these so called "women" go?

Sad, sad world.

Bonkers Mad!!!

i agree T, the guy who was running the dog fights should have got a longer sentence but it defies belief that these women did EXACTLY the same thing with tots and got off. the British justice system eh?

Sick, there is no other word for it. Those women needed locking up and steralised. 19 years old? How could they do that to children.

sick, sick, sick, and if I had my way, I would go round and give them a piece of my mind and then some.

They should be given to a loving family who will give them love and care, not the grandmother. If she was present it makes her as bad as them. Sick!
