Hi everyone :)
Just to let you know that a minority of NFHiB Member's appear to be having some scoring saving issues on the NFHiB Arcade (http://www.nfh.org.uk/forums/arcade.php) at the moment or seeing various 'Permission Error' messages and similar, etc with some games.
This doesn't appear to be an error with the NFHiB Arcade and unfortunately is probably down to some member's ISP's (Internet Service Providers) use of 'dynamic' IP's (ever changing IP addresses or randomly assigned while you're still online, etc). Google.co.uk (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=What+is+a+dynamic+IP) gives more information about Dynamic IP's (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=What+is+a+dynamic+IP) and for "What is an IP?" (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=What+is+an+IP).
This is not a browser issue and using IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc, whilst still using an underlying ISP such as AOL, will not rectify the problem(s).
Unfortunately, there is very little we can do here to help these member's solve the problems they may see occasionally with scoring or permission errors as there is no fault with the NFHiB Arcade or our settings. This is most probably due to the use of your chosen ISP (for example, AOL which often changes NFHiB member's IP's at random and often repeatedly whilst they are logged in at NFHiB, even during one session) - this can make the Arcade believe you are attempting to 'cheat' or 'not logged in', hence the sometimes seen 'permission errors' or failure to submit scores for games that do work for other members, etc.
Occasionally a game will not work here for other reasons and we'll remove these and attempt to fix and return to the Arcade or remove from play. But the vast majority of games that have been reported with 'errors' over the last few days (we are grateful that NFHiB members take the time to let us know) are, in fact, working normally and without problems for the majority of the forum.
We also suggest that member's having problems with the Arcade also reset/delete their browser 'cookies' and 'temporary internet file cache' from time to time - this may help to use the Arcade without some problems.
Please note, if you change your ISP because of this problem, we can't guarantee your Arcade problems may be solved, as there are many influencing and different factors involved in all member's set-ups and we have no way of knowing all of these in each member's individual case. :)
To re-iterate, unfortunately there is not much we can do to overcome this frustrating and annoying problem for some NFHiB members as the use of your ISP and their dynamic IPs is outside of our control. :)
Thanks for reading. :D
