Has anyone got any recommendations for any sites online to buy a well priced, DVD Recorder?

I know the prices of DVD Recorders have dropped considerably over the last year or so and if anyone knows of any well priced models online, that'd be really helpful - thanks! :)

I was recently looking to buy one, and ended up with a HDD/DVD recorder from dabs.com. I like being able to record onto the hard drive (160 Gb) or onto a DVD as a choice. The only drawback I have found is that it 's life-expectancy is until analogue TV services are switched off. Which is a few years off in this area, but starts next year, I believe, in some areas.

Thanks Sapph - I've heard good things about Dabs.com, but I've never bought anything from them, I'll check it out. B)

Have always found them fine to deal with, and am very pleased with my new recorder :) I've seen the last of video tapes, thank goodness!

Video Tapes - they're becoming as obsolete as the LP (or Betamax!) now it seems! Question is, what to do with them all?!

I suppose it's possible to transfer the VHS tapes you really want/need onto DVD as an alternative though. :)

Erm, we still actually have a fully working Betamax and loads of tapes  :hihi:

Actually most TV recording is still done on tape and a lot done on betamax. Betamax machines are worth a bomb.

Best investment for the future buy a VHS, keep it in the box and dont open it, 20 years time you got yourself a piece of history.

We get tons of work transferring vhs and also pal to ntsc and vice versa. Best dvd recorders I have are Sony. Theres also a good Samsung machine that we have (at home) you can make dvds off the vhs as the 2 formats run along side each other in the machine. I'm not at home at the moment, been filming North Yorkshire today, but when I get back tomorrow I'll look for the model number. :)

I have a Samsung VCR336 which you can use to transfer VT to DVD and vice versa.

Since most film screeners end up illicitly on ebay and pirated, all pre release screeners are now encrypted and will only play on Cinea Machines.

Being a member of Bafta does have its perks,in order for me to review the pre releases AMPAS sent me a Cinea Machine from LA free of charge with a phone card to phone them toll free to have the code activated on the machine.
I also use it to play 'ordinary' dvd's and have to say the quality of playback is phenomenal. I dont know if they are availbale to buy yet but they are definitely going to be the machine of the future as they also play Blu Ray.

Try Kelkoo and Pricerunner and Xtreme for the best prices on the net.
