View Full Version : Eastenders - Noise Nuisance Storyline

Shirley makes it clear to Gavin that she's unhappy with his noisiness. He cheerfully replies that he's just bought a new sound system. Later, she confronts him again. He cruelly accuses her of being a nag.****

Just to let you all know that another soap is now covering the issue of noise nuisance. The NFH (Gavin) was very rude when Shirley tried to speak to him about it.

I don't know where they're going to go with this storyline.

One to watch maybe. ;) :)

I don't know where they're going to go with this storyline.

Like most things I've seen on Eastenders I'm sure it will end in tears before bedtime.

I don't watch it much, but have they ever had a happy storyline on it?

I wonder if 'somebody' is reading these boards. Didn't we discuss the fact that there were no 'noise/neighbour' issues being shown in soaps a few months ago?

I saw last night's episode. Wonder if they'll deal with it rationally or use it as a sensational storyline? Hmmm. Only time will tell.

I might try and catch it but the problem I have with Eastenders is that it is full of the most horrible and foulest people ever to grace the planet with the possible exception of Dot Cotton. To watch the soaps I need to have sympathy with some of the characters but in EE I would happily see their characters killed off in the most horrible way imaginable. And those double negatives drive me up the wall.

Have you ever noticed that the characters often talk in questions?

e.g.

"How ya doin?"
"Who wants to know?"
"Just askin', is that alright?
"Can't complain, you?

etc

I quite like the Peggy line, "gerrrahdamwoiiipahb!"

Ooh, Gavin is starting to look VERY nasty. Poor ol' Shirley :( I've got a feeling that her poor moggy is going to come to a sticky end :( Hope I'm wrong.

what I have seen of it....not much, it seems to be really focusing in her feelings

I so releated to the look on her face when the music started and she was trying to relax.
my stomach actually went over for her

will have to try and follow it for a while now to see whats going to happen.

NB
can we please only discuss the actual story line after the omnibus each sunday for those people who do a catch up on sundays!!

Vernon, we have to pinch your spoiler tag!!

no doubt what will happen is phil will steam in there, rip the plug out and trample the stereo to pieces.

end of noise problem.

whereas, what they should be doing is showing us months and months of tedious and obnoxious behaviour, unsympathetic Police and slow EH departments...which would be more realistic.

Point taken Beth :)

But can people remind me on Sunday evening to post my comments about Pat. ;)

hollygolightly
08-09-03, 11:33 AM
I missed quite a lot of Eastenders last week, but did catch an early episode where Pat sympathised with Shirley (in the cafe) about the noise nuisance.

Pat's response was, get on to the Council and the Police and they'd sort it. Sadly it's not that straight forward in reality is it? ;)

And how creepy is Gavin? Made my skin crawl when he came into her flat with the EHO's.

well.......the story seems to be progressing but....

is it true to life???

would you really get the out of hours people after a few weeks of putting a complaint in?
and do they only take half an hour to get to you??

what shall we do people of NFHiB??

we could all write to points of view about the story line and about us...what do you think??
and eastenders at the BBC

and anyone else you can think of

the telly magazines for example, you know the ones who have the readers letters at the back (normally about the great acting in emmerdale!!! :P )

this is an ideal time to make people aware of the size of neighbour problems

we will be heard!!!

power to the people :ban: :nfh1: :ban:

I suppose the tv people are caught between making something look realistic and keeping the storyline going for weeks, possibly boring it's audience, or keeping it shortish but showing what can be done. I think it's called artistic licence. Let's be honest, just how true to life is any soap?

But I knew that poor moggy was going to come to a sticky end. I could write those scripts!!! RIP Boots

Misty

Indeed RIP Boots - knew it was going to happen. But the part about Boots is true (sort of ;) ), we had a similar problem with an old NFH and I can remember some other members of NFHiB having threats made towards their pets by their NFH.

Perhaps now would be a good time Beth to up NFHiB's publicity again. Who's starting first? :)

Just been to have a look at the EastEnders site. They have a MB there:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?x=...e&state=threads (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?x=y&board=eastenders.current&sort=Te&state=threads)

 Poor Shirley :o A member was not sympathetic over the loss of Boots.

I've just filled in a feedback form and asked them to add our link for as long as the storyline continues. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. ;)

I'll let you know when I get a reply :)

The nasty person who wrote about Shirley on the MB has obviously never owned a pet or if they did they never loved it! :(

Hi Misty

That's the standard reply you get when you first e-mail. :)

When they've had a chance to look at your e-mail, after a few days, they are supposed to send you a more "personal" one - so they say ;) :D .

Hi All,

I would love to write something really profound and original about the Eastenders NFH plotline, but unfortunately the only plotline that I seem to be able to think about is "where the heck did Vicky get that ridiculous accent from????"

Surely they've had enough time to reply to someone by now.

Mind you, I queried something with the BBC over a year ago and am still waiting

EE message board (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?state=threads&board=eastenders.current&sort=T&offset=250)

this is where some of my messages are, I even had a replt from the host asking what should shirley do next!!

some people are really slating her on the board, saying well what does she expect living in a downstairs flat!!

I told them not to make assumptions!

I find watching EE generally depressing. Can't watch at all now because of the story line about noise. Excellent that the problem is being given an airing on such a high profile programme, but when you are living it, you don't need to watch. The actress is good I reckon- her emotions reflect those felt so often by all of us - I even wondered if somebody from this site was advising!! Or perhaps the actress has lived this in real life.

Another thought - I often wonder if storylines like thes give nfh in real life even more twisted ideas! Catch 22 I suppose - people need to be aware but you can hardly order real life nfh not to watch!

Am interested to hear what replies you get!

Some great points made in your posts Beth, well done :) Some good comments from other posters as well (I don't mean the one who suggests Shirley should borrow Lisa's gun or the one who says hurl his stereo out of the window) It's interesting to see some posters have absolutely no idea of what it's like. Suggesting she sleep when Gavin sleeps or move away - if only life was so easy! They forget Shirley works as well!

Lets hope the scriptwriters take your comments on board. I want to see Gavin slapped with an ASBO at the very least!

SPOILER ALERT!!

the coming week in EE is going to focus on poor ole Shirl'

you need to be ready, as it will be a shock.......the police are helping her!!!!!!!!!

it seems to involve rubbish and a cunning plan (from what I can see in the TV Quick,) wont say any more though!!

Oh, if only life were as simple as it is in the soaps :o Then again, they have an awful lot of murders and strange deaths, so maybe not ;)

Beth could you please check you read that correctly :D
Got to be a typo, otherwise EE can't be real ** ;)
I know!!!

its like the fact the walford EHO came out really quickly and she had the out of hours number within days of her problems starting!

if only we all lived there.......well...........apart from the murders, the gangsters, the affairs, the fights, the fraud, the incest, and the parking problems!!!

Do you mean that next week we are actually going to see some other characters?

Other than DD, Shazza, Vicky and Little Den?

Fantastic  ;) .

We haven't seen Shirl filling in log sheets or getting evidence - the Police won't do anything without that...

I shall watch with interest. ;)

just been and posted in the EE message board again.

have to remember as their board closes at 10pm!

so at the minute we are on the front page, just really wish I could put the web address in!

Beth
10-10-03, 07:57 PM
well it seems the best time to post is just before an episode starts, afterwards the board is swamped with members telling each other what happened in that episode.

I am not going to comment further on that though!

the posts get lost very quickly after an episode finshes and there is no order of posts

to be honest it just seems like a lot of ramblings about who fancies what charaters!!
yeah I know, I said I wasnt going to make any further comments!

EE message boards (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/h2/h2.cgi?x=y&offset=0&sort=Te&board=eastenders.current&state=threads)

I just look for messages that might include shirley or gavins name and then post!

Beth

thanks HE!

I did have a nice reply tonight form someone who said they had been there, luckily their problem moved out

it would be nice if they came to have a wee look at the board though, they might yet!

Come on, confess!!

Which one of you has written into TV Choice magazine to complain about this storyline in Eastenders:

''I'm very concerned by the message 'Eastenders' has been giving recently about nuisance neighbours. The fact that Gavin has been able to terrorise Shirley so completely - even fooling environmental health officials into believing she's exaggerating the problem - must have put off many viewers in similar situations from taking action. Why sacrifice people's peace of mind for dramatic effect?''

Quote: TV Choice, 11-17 October 2002 Letters Page :)

:wow: And more importantly - Mary Perkins from Yeovil, Somerset won 10 quid for that being the 'Star Letter' :wow:
