I got a Steam Generator Iron from Aldi the other day and had to take it back as water kept dripping out of the bottom of it.

So I went on Ebay and got a Philips one instead. Now it is good, but I am disapointed that it doesn't get all the creases out. It is a top of the range one and cost a frtune, but am I being too picky or is it my ironing technique that is cr*p?

Do any of you have one and if you have what do you think of them?

I don't like steam irons as they can drip. I sprinkle my laundry with water (in a plant spritzer mixed with 20 drops of lavendar essential oil) and find that this works well and makes our laundry smell devine!
Also be sure to fold your laundry when getting it off the line or out of the tumble dryer..

LOL, Neither do I, hate it with a vengence. OH does all ours, he used to work for a well known kitchen appliance place and got ours from there but you'd have to ask him if it's any good!

I dont do ironing - I have ironed only once in 34 years and that was a disaster as I say to mr. P - What do you think they have dry cleaners for

Believe me - it works out cheaper with me

My nan had a good old heavy iron and nothing fancy like what we have today and the clothes she ironed always come out top notch. My brother runs a laundry business and I noticed all the workers uses commercial irons, which are of a more robust make and is heavy like the old irons of my nan days, perhaps it is a matter of pressing it hard.

the iron definitely has to have weight or else it means you have to press hard which is very tiring.

Yes that's the sort I mean. Here (http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/catalog/tree/en/gb/consumer/HOUSEHOLD_PRODUCTS_GR_GB_CONSUMER/HOP_IRONS_CA_GB_CONSUMER/ce/_productId_GC8261_02_GB_CONSUMER/Pressurised_ironing_system+GC8261?proxybuster=4DPY IOSWBZNQVJ0RMRESHQVHKFSEKI5P) is the one I have got now.

It doesn't drip or anything, but it does leave little creases, not huge ones, just little faint ones.

I think this is where the problem lies...

The iron is lightweight, making ironing easy and effortless[/b]

the iron needs to be a bit weighty as the steam alone cant get all the creases out.

That would put me off buying it, I'm afraid

I do not do the ironing very often either ;) Hubby does it  He also showed me how to "hand iron" too so when things come of out the dryer you just place the item on a flat surface and use your hand to iron  works well especially with T Shirts ;)

i dont iron either. i do have an iron somewhere  i inherited it from an aged aunt but only because my mum thought she was being funny  its probably one of the first electric irons ever and its orange and brown

i dont have an ironing board, my kids are used to looking like tramps and if something is very crumpled then i just dont wear it

ooh you non ironers are very very naughty!!!! :nono: :nono: i do like a bit of ironing, seeing all the clothes nicely pressed and looking good - after all we spent good money on them!

also i was told by someone ( not my mum she never ironed anything) when i was a kid I think that ironing kills bugs lurking in the fabric...

All bugs are killed in a 60 degree wash. But ironing's heat can kill bugs on anything washed at a lower heat. This is another reason I use lavendar water, because of it's antiseptic and anti bacterial qualities. I like to be deep down clean!

Never need to iron, just wash the clothes, hang them on the Sheila Maid for 2 days and the heat of the boiler makes the clothes dry and we never get a single crease

Blimey, mumski, much as i like ironng i wouldnt want to be doing shirts for three blokes!

mr hubby annabel used to do his own when he worked in a bank, they were pristine, better than i would have done ;)

I have an iron in pristine condition...I have probably only used it 5 times in my life! And that was under duresse!!

Middlest little mazza uses it every week though to iron his Cubs Neckerchief scarf thing - he's a good lad!

I also believe an iron should have some weight to it - my iron is a bit on the light side (Tefal ultraglide too) but you have to really blast cotton with the steam button to get it crease free  .

I am in favour of folding clothes straight from the drier or washing line too!!
