There was a news item in our paper today which read:

Britains first slippers amnesty will be launched next week. Age Concern is encouraging pensioners in Hampshire to hand over their old, worn-out ones in return for a new pair. Experts claim more that 120,000 people each year are injured in falls caused by dodgy footwear. A spokesman said "People tend to keep slippers for a long time so the soles might not grip as well"[/b]

what a fantastic idea

if...slippers cause falls, falls cause broken broken bones (hips etc) broken bones mean operations and time in hospital (money an distress) and sometimes the older person never makes it home again...an old peoples home or on the really grim side..the final journey

so if all that can be stopped for the price of a pair of slippers  great idea

Totally agree  My mum's GP called out to see her on Friday to make sure she was ok after her set back the other week, and he said the it was good to see a patient that hadn't had a fall because the majority of his call outs that day were to see people who had fallen over :(

So perhaps other councils will take heed and offer the same amnesty, especially the county or borough councils where "people at risk" live ;) (trying to be PC here )

Hmmmmm

Thinking laterally here.

A recent news article in my local paper was to do with the number of people who had sued the Council because they had tripped over a paving stone/twisted their ankle on a pot hole etc. etc.

I wonder if the local council demanded to know what footwear they had on at the time?

And should we discriminate against people who walk up the road in their slippers - I know I do it often enough when I need to nip up to the corner shop for that extra pint of milk....
