Drink and drugs destroy lives. But for the grace..........

I've got a friend like that in America, sad to see the effects. Sometimes he just rabbles on for hours making all kinds of lewd and nonsensical comments, he was a friend of my fathers and was a lecturer and had a lovely house all ruined now, on his own as his partner had enough of the boozing.
Sometimes they just don't know when to call it a day do they?
Sad.
Its strange, but I always worry about Robbie when he is doing interviews. If you watch him closely, he's like a little boy lost. He will say something then looks around for approval almost immediately. :( He always comes over as super confident, but I think he really struggles. Its sad he's ended up with another addiction. Some people seem to have an addictive personality  . Hope he sorts himself out soon and feels happier with himself.

At least he's got the guts to admit his addiction and get help, sadly so many don't and end up losing their lives.

I knew someone who was addicted to gambleing and that destroyed him because he didnt see what it was doing to him.[/b]
I had a friend who was addicted to alcohol - sadly she died a couple of years ago - she couldnt see what her addiction was doing to her till it was too late

Yes just like the friend of my dad's his liver is shot away and he still keeps washing it down, lost his job and his house and his partner but still keeps drinking away. So sad to see someone losing it like that.

Oh he knows he's got a problem - he just doesnt care anymore, and there's nothing you can do when it gets to that stage except be there when they make the call.

My mother is an alcoholic manic depressive and is presently in the last stages of liver disease. She was told that she had six months if she continued to drink (a month ago) and guess what - she has recently begun drinking again. Oh well, to hell with her! She has a son (me) with whom she has no relationship whatsoever and four grandchildren she will never know.
I have little pity for those who conduct themselves in such a manner as to land themselves with a self destructive addiction. They can see what they are risking and can see the effect which their actions have on those around them. They are simply too selfish to care.

I think they are weak - they hide behind the drink/addiction rather than face what life has thrown at them :( Until one day they realise the answer isnt at the bottom of the bottle or whatever

i couldnt agree more, it's pure selfishness. i've had heroin addict friends and alcoholic friends, some are still here and some, sadly, are not. i'm afraid i dont have the patience for it.

Its like my friend you cant help them if they dont want help. Its just a waste of time and of course its always somebody elses fault.
I always say its like people who commit adultery they say 'It just happened' Sorry NO! there is a moment in time when you come to that point and say 'Shall I shan't I...oh what the hell'.
Who pays the piper- plays the tune.
