Scanners

Can anybody help I have an HP PSC1315 all-in-one and I cant get the damn thing to scan - I go into the software prog and click on image zone - it comes up scans as a preview but will not save as a Jpeg or Gif - I need to scan in a letter so I can upload (which I will be asking you about in a minute if I ever get the scanner to work ). What am I doing wrong?

I don't know how your scanner works P24, but mine you have to scan first which gives you a preview of the scan (which allows to to adjust the settings such as resolution and type of scan (black & white document, colour photo etc), and if the preview looks OK, then you press 'scan' again to do the 'real' thing.

Then it allows you to save it.

Mine was a HP too (diff model though).

Thats what Im doing but it refuses to scan the second time to save it - i thought it was because the laptop was clogged up with word - there is a hell of a lot of letters on there etc so I have cleaned it out and saved all the necessary stuff then use the disk clean up but still it wont work - looks like Im buying new scanner today

Have given up the bl**dy thing - I've photographed the letter and am trying to figure out how to upload it doh!!!

Thanks but it comes up as a preview perfectly just wont go the extra step and save the image. It prints ok and photocopies ok - which what I predominantly bought it for, but I cant figure out what is wrong - Have only got that in the USB port nothing else, connected to a HP Pavilion Laptop.

Hi yes I've used it before and its usb 2, I thought it was because it was choked up with stuff - you know disk drive but no difference when I downloaded stuff off the drive, cleaned - still same problem - have also installed the software again, although it shouldn't need the software as being an HP also it should recognise it straight away. Looks like its given up the ghost which is a shame because the laptop sit on top of it just great and its really compact to take with me when travelling, plus i have just bought 6 bl**dy inkwells for it :angry:

ok - i did an uninstall from the device manager/ add remove programs - then rebooted then installed - nothing

Tried system restore - nothing
Was working on saturday ok I give up

No I dont use it on any of the others - I only bought it because I needed a photocopier and its small and compact and fit in a suitcase for when Im travelling. I'll try it on the others and see what happens, thanks for all your help. :)

Hi No I dont use internet explorer at all, Ill try the link re stripping it down and yes out of warranty, was bought late 2005

quick update - tried the scanner on the other computers and it worked fine - tried it on the laptop failed - unplugged everything - took forever and then plugged it in and now it works - dont know what it was but its working now - I dont need it of course, but thanks,
