http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6304783.stm - this explains a bit about it! :)

http://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/ this has all the info for recording your bird numbers. :)

Its a great way to get kids involved as well - my two sit watching for an hour counting up what they can see. Although we only get sparrows  and blackbirds round here.

 Too early for baby sparrows to be out yet!

Did one this morning and hubby will do one tomorrow morning - (this means me as well - 'pretty coloured sparrows' are usually chaffinches and we really do NOT have Dartford warblers in our garden  )

Bless him - shortly after he retired he rang me at work and described this black and white bird walking in the garden - a wagtail!! :D[/b]

 My mum gets so many different birds in her garden - even a kingfisher! There is a buzzard and a hawk that flies over most days as well.

my birds are cursing me today as I have been doing a big prune of their big hedge!

tried to tell them its for they own good come spring, so I wont disturb their babies in there.

we have lots of sparrows, an assortment of different T*ts (the bird kind ;) ) blue, coal and great etc ~blackbirds and thrushes and a kestrel who appears every now and then, theres a large resiviou up the road so we also see sea gulls and some ducks and stuff :D

one of the neighbours breeds budies....does that count

We have a hawk that circles the meadows at the back of the house and then swoops down - never comes up with anything though ;)
Also lots of blackbirds and a lone pigeon that seems to have escaped from somewhere as it has a tag on its leg. Now the cats can actually go outside without fear of being kidnapped, we were worried but the cats just sit and watch the birds. :)

We have once seen a woodpecker in our garden which was beautiful.

In addition to what everyone else has said we also get jays very regularly :)

I was expecting a lot of big birds! Eagles Ostriches and stuff, instead it's just a load of people watching ordinary ones!!! :hihi:

Hi Sammie they tweettwetawoo as well, lol.

We have 4 GS Woodpeckers (2 are youngsters from previous years, they know where they are well off), Treecreepers, spoilt for choice here also a pair of Sparrow Hawks, get tired of chasin' them oh and this little fella, haven't the heart to chase him ~ what I believe is a Merlin, such a deadly but bonnie bird, well deadly we will just say that he tries hard, caught me a bit off guard and wrong camera !

A cracking picture Rowan ~ Well done.

:D Fabulous picture, Rowan :)
I have only ever seen one in my garden :(

On the top 20 birds list there were no Jays which surprised me a bit. We have always had Jays - does anyone else have any?
