View Full Version : Who wants furniture and stuff?
heres the freecycle list of your areas .... here (http:///http://www.freecycle.org/display.php?region=United%20Kingdom)
- or alternatively you can look to see if there is any charities who want stuff, many collect from you.
We shifted a load of stuff when we moved, like the odd chair, bed etc and they were taken by some charities who furnish homes for people like victims of domestic violence, homeless people and kids leaving care....it starts them off in their own homes.
Sally ally do it to I believe.
I have some names of ones in my area ...... if anyone is interested :) (Leeds)

Yeah beth thats what we do - in fact we have some friends that have a van and volunteer to do a 'charity run' for the local charities (I think they do it every few months) and we just gave a load of electrical equipment, computer chair, speakers, etc to him to pass on.
We donated our old sofa and TV stand last time and they told us they were taking it to a single mum on benefit.
I'd rather someone had it and made use out of it than it was just chucked.
Thanks Beth
Great thread ,as you probably noticed i fully back the idea of freecycle.
Such a lot these days is just thrown away when there is people out there that could use it.
Charity shops are a good idea too.
More things should be used again and not just used to fill another landfill site.

when I moved from the large house I gave most of my furniture to the Homeless unit and the SA.
I remember what it was like in the homeless unit - pretty bleak so I thought the extra furniture would help out.
The worse thing about being homeless was not having a fridge for 12 weeks. I had to use longlife carton milk and fresh food every day which cost a lot. Still at least one of those units got my fridge freezer :) so it'll be a bit easier for the next person.
I've just got into Freecycle too and it really works!!
I can thoroughly recommentd it and the people that have come to collect my junk, oops I mean wonderful items so far all seem to be really nice too :) .

It's quite amazing what some people ask for on Freecycle. It's also amazing what some people will give away.
I used to be very active in my area but lost interest after a series of acquisitions turned out to be only fit for landfill. Too many people were using it as a free way to get rid of stuff that was really not fit for purpose.
My SO now does most of our Freecycling. As I'm in a better area (even the best areas of Birmingham are not much better than landfill) the condition of Freecycled items seems much better.
One thing that makes me laugh is that when we offer anything the same names always seem to crop up trying to claim our stuff! We have suspicions that some of them may be car-booters or junk-shop owners.

We're in our local freecycle and have got rid of things that could be really useful to others.
As well of being environment friendly - just think of all the good vibes you'll be storing up! What goes around, comes around etc!!!
