I know - my insurance is due next week I have had quotes ranging from £250 to £700  and thats with nearly 14 years no claims and a sp30  . And then because mr sparrow works with cars and hes a named driver on my policy(he has company van and insurance with work) some companies refuse to insure me!!

I once had somebody slam the breaks on in front of me and i went into the back of them (no damage to mine) . We exchanged details - I went into my insurers the next morning to sort it all out with them. Left it in their hands. A week later I got a letter from the guy whose car I hit saying if I gave him £250 cash for the damage to his bumper we need nt bother involving our insurance companies  I wrote back and told him in future all dealing would be through my solicitor - funny i never heard from him again - no claim put through either :) To this day I think it was a scam - imagine if he did that once a week ? Thats a £1000 a month

I dont drive anymore but like you Mr. P has been driving a long time, 40 years (yes I know it made me feel old) and has a SP30 now wiped because it is over 5 years old and his insurance is still 250 plus.
BTW - if you move house and change the address on your licence and the offence is over 5 years old the new one comes back with it 'clean' - you don't have to pay for it to be removed!

We are with Direct Line - who I have to say have been quite good over the years.

The motorbike was insured with Norwich Union - who after we got it stolen and then recovered by the police then stolen again - told us not to say it had been stolen a second time but just to claim on the first incident. This was because they were supposed to arrange for it to be picked up and repaired and the company they had the franchise with never turned up when they said they would and it got stolen a second time and never recovered.
I had an ongoing fight for a couple of months with them and sent a copy of their suggestions to the local police - who werent too happy that an insurance firm might be suggesting falsifying a claim, just to cover their own incompetence. Needless to say they paid up in full - waved the excess and the no-claims AND apologised.
They still had the nerve to send a customer care survey out 3 months later - like I'm going to fill it in

Doesnt matter who you go with though - they always sting you!

Hi all,

The advice given is that if you have an accident where the car in front appears to brake suddenly and you hit them, is to:

1) Take note of the registration of the car
2) Take note of how many occupants are in the car (note appearances of the driver and passengers)
3) Have a disposable camera in your car and take a picture of any damage to both cars)
4) Ask for insurance details, and if they are not sure or (don't have them), don't waste time, call the police to attend.

I always keep a notebook, pen, pencil, torch, and camera (as well as first aid kit etc) just in case.

One accident happened where a man broke suddenly and the car behind hit him. He was the only one in the car, but after all details were swapped and the other drive assumed it would all get sorted, it was claimed that the driver and his passengers were suffering with whiplash and they were claiming compensation even though the other driver claimed that there was only one person in the car.

Be careful, and it's a good reason to keep your distance.

Its a very good idea to have a disposable camera in the car, I had a bloke bump into the back of me just before Xmas - no damage and everything was genuine, i could have hung him out to dry though as he said ' I'm so sorry, I was looking at the Xmas decs on that house!'

we had a giggle but I was thinking 'you shouldnt have said that mate, you dont know who you could be talking to!'
