View Full Version : Goodbye Police helmets - Hello baseball caps
Police ditching old fashioned helmets (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/tm_method=full%26objectid=18415731%26siteid=94762-name_page.html)
Don't know what to say there is a picture in our paper but not on the web; I don't like it, too americanised :nono:

They will be arresting you and asking if you want fries with it next.
Not sure about it either. I thought only the cheesy S.W.A.T teams did base ball caps?

Welcome to ChavCop my only question is ....will it be Burberry or Nike, hopefully the latter so we can call them TickHeads!!
How long before they completely ditch the uniforms and go casual so that they can totally blend in? ;) Ridiculous

:) Here is a piccie from the Mail on Sunday (http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=426901&in_page_id=1770) think it would suit women more than the fellas.
That's the one
That shows even more how americanised they look. It's bad enough that the police have to walk around with their belt full of "gear" and flak jackets etc, but to put them into baseball caps - well I just don't like them. Sorry but both Mr O & I do not like baseball caps never have done and these caps will not get our approval (not that is matters what the public think anyway :P)
When my boys were very young (I'm going back about 28 years here!) I always made sure that they respected the police and when we were out they always approached a "Bobby" as a friend and even waved at them in their cars; the bobby responded and always talked to them. Now to see them in these horrible caps makes them look unapproachable IMO.
( I'll get off my high horse now )
Not sure about this at all what will be next, have a nice day stickers on their bumpers and a bag of doughnuts on the dash.

Now it's much easier for them to pull their caps down over their faces and get a bit of kip. :(

And also gives them the opportunity to ignore whats going on around them - just pull it down over the eyes

I wonder how much this change of headgear is going to cost. Money that should be spent on policing - not fashion.

Hi all
Hmmmm not sure about the caps but maybe they need to come up with some other design which makes the hats/caps easier to work in as they report the old ones being a pain when they are in a chase etc .

Having been a McDonalds burger-flipper I find that remark highly offensive. There is no way any police officer I have had the misfortune to deal with recently could make the grade for McD.

Bring on the Robocop style Helmet with the meshed visor, they don't fall off when you chase someone! Baseball caps are the low point of any uniform, but when it's our Mr Brunstrom what does the world expect? Speed cameras anyone?
