Just hearing on the news that a tornado hit part of NW London about 11am this morning. Only 6 people injured amazingly as by the look of the footage on the news it was horrific. Lots of damage to cars and houses, and one house had completely lost it's upstairs side wall as well as part of the downstairs wall.

We live just outside London, to the south, and about 11am here it was like night time and we had thunder and a torrential hail storm, so goodness only knows what it was like for them :o

Just saw it on the BBC website - scary. Did anyone see it?

This weather is weird! :( Today we've had more strong winds and heavy rain all day - where are the frosts? ;)

The Daily Express had a big article today on the weather for the next few weeks. Looks like we may [if they are right for once  ] be in for lots more high winds and blizzards like we haven't seen for decades :o

My mate lives near the edge of the tornado (as he called it) and he said it was really fierce - serious winds and thunder and lightening. luckily for him he isn't working today so he just stayed in and hid inside!

The weather is just bizzare lately. You would never have believed someone saying that to you ten years ago.

Glad no-one was too badly hurt. Must have been scary.

Just heard it hit about 10 roads - that's a heck of a lot of roads  At least 100 houses are now uninhabitable :o

A school was affected, but thankfully all the children were inside

It's weird!

It's strange as I was at home and about 10.45 ish could hear what I thought was an explosion to the west of me. I mean, how often do you hear thunder in December ?? A couple of minutes later it happened again, and it started to get really dark here. I heard another 'explosion' to the west but as it got so dark realised it was thunder and was just thinking how odd it was to hear thunder this time of year. The weather was moving from the west so it must have been happening as I heard it. It got darker and darker, suddenly very, very windy, and then the heavens opened with an almighty hail storm :o

We are quite a few miles away from where it happened and the weather was quite scary here, so I can only imagine how terrifying it must have been for those poor people. Some people were hiding under their tables, and could feel the buildings shaking. Must have been awful

We had one a few weeks ago a couple of miles along the coast, it lifted some ponies up but luckily, not too much damage  I've been watching Sky News coverage about it as it's blowing a gale outside as I type! I feel for the people who have all this damage to their homes to deal with right on top of Christmas, at least nobody was killed. Yes, I am watching Sky news too, CN.

They just said that people thought a bomb had gone off :o That must have been when I heard the first 'explosion' and I deliberately noted the time because I thought something mega may have been happening a few miles away  It didn't really sound like thunder that first 'bang'

Blimey!

That's awful Annabel, hopefully they've got it wrong, Skynews are saying 6 people are injured, one seriously.
Could you actually hear it,SP? it looks one hell of a mess dosen't it? I bet that must've been so frightening, especially when you are not sure what has happened first of all. CN

I honestly thought there had been an explosion, CN, it was that sort of noise, which is why I noted the time  I don't know how far away we are as the crow flies, but think I will look it up out of interest, but several miles anyway

It has come over black again here and very windy again - just as I have to go out. :badmood:

Hope the weather calms down where you are, Sp, it's certainly not what we're used to!! CN

we had one up in in yorkshire last month, it was quite scary but we all kept the stiff upper lip going~!

I was on a bus at the time and it rocked like crazy in the wind and we all laughed making jokes about the funny weather for the time of year! it wasnt till we put the local news on that night we saw how much damamge it had caused :o

Wow what freak weather... where we are it was sunny this morning; then it started to cloud over and this afternoon had very very high winds gusting and torrential rain :badmood: It blew over two of my pots now all the stones are all over the decking  but that's nothing compared to the unfortunate people who have suffered damaget to their homes

It is still very gusty up here been going on for about 4 hours now....

mini sunami near london city.
ruined houses once so pretty.
People distraught who'da thought
it would leave so few so very distraught.
say a prayer for we do care that some of those homes will be beyond repair.
We will forget are lives will carry on but having being homeless my thoughts will linger on,
The young woman's tears running down her face at the angst and sorrow time may not erase.
Think of the money needed to repair their precious homes and smashed momentos that never will be brought back to life that brought heartfelt joy beyond compare.
The childrens comfort and securety and warmth, the devestation that will haunt.
The christmas tree it's baubles smashed the outer walls lay tossed and thrashed.
by winds and rain that years ago we would not have seen, caused by humanity's eyes so green.
we are responsibele for this mess.
It costs us more when we pay less.
wake up politicians and men of industry , people WAKE UP
for we have a share in blame for others misery. :(
