View Full Version : Saddam Case Closed
Just interested in peoples views here regarding Saddam Hussian. you may have heard that he has been found guilty and (depending on his appeal  ) has been sentanced to death by hanging.
he however wants to be shot at the hands of a firing squad.....he says this is because he has the right of an military man, however some people think this is because he would prefer a quicker death than hanging.
talking to people I know about this I have been a little surprised, as people who are against capital punishment normally have made an exception in this case and think that he should die rather than their normal view of life term imprisionment
So what do you think?
have your normal views changed about the punishment due to the fact it is "him"?
The poll will not work for someone who makes the choice that they do not hold with capital punishment, simply because this precludes any choice from section two of the poll and the vote will not work without a choice from that section :)

I really shouldnt care less what happens to the evil G*t, however, he really should just be kept behind bars until he dies a natural death because there will be such an upsurge in violence if he is hanged.
I am not at all comfortable that leaders of countries where the death penalty has been abolished saying well done to the court in Iraq and expressing pleasure at the outcome. The UK govt is currently trying to get some person convicted in Pakistan let off the death penalty, even Prince Charles raised the issue when he was there just recently; the hypocrisy makes me rather nauseous.
let the bloke rot in jail, dont make him a martyr by hanging him.

I agree Annabel, he should rot in jail.....
I used to think the death penalty was ok in my youth, but nowadays, the thought of it sickens me really.
I am also very uneasy that several politicians in this country have expressed their gladness that he is to be executed - how can they say this when we have no death penalty here?
I am also sure that he will be martyred if he is executed which defeats the purpose really  .
I know he is the most evil specimen and deserves a really nasty punishment...somehow I think keeping him alive to see what a mess the 'west' has made of his country would be much worse than just sending him to oblivion ;) .
I think execution is too good a way out for him
I think he would suffer more by being left in jail with no privileges whatsoever for the rest of his days. Compared to the luxurious and pampered life he used to live in his palaces etc. this would be a much more fitting punishment for him.
I hate the thought of him being turned into a martyr

i think he should rot in jail too, the only reason i dont agree with the death penalty is that its an easy way out for him (and anybody else sentenced to death. if he has to die then he should hang, after all, his victims werent given the choice of how to die, why should he?
I dont agree with the death penalty either but i strongly believe he has no right to choose his own fate so from the poll options i agree he should hang
I believe he will be a martyr no matter what :(

I'm all for the death penalty for really evil crimes and paedophiles but ,don't ask me why, this verdict has made me feel really uneasy with it, as others have said, too many countries which don't have CP theirselves have jumped on this with glee. I think the fact that the USA were all over him before is what makes it even more repungent, it's politics at it's absolute worse

I used to think that way, an eye for an eye, but then death is an easy way out. No come backs, you are gone, nothing else to face.
He should be put in one of the worst jails they can find. Dirty conditions, bad food, treated with no respect. I don't mean beaten or abused (that's sick), but not given any luxury. After all, he's a mass murderer. He doesn't deserve anything else.
Trouble will be rife in Iraq whatever anyone does.

I think he should be left to rot.
Having said that he has far to much time spent discussing him by the press.
Forget him and don't boost his ego by discussing his warped views.
(Oh and nothing illogical about your poll in my opinion Beth smile.gif . Conditional opinions are perfectly valid in by book[/b]
Agreed!
I was not conscienciously objecting at all! Hope that did not sound like it?
The problem was practical, I could not submit the poll with a missing answer, that is all.

I'd like to see him castrated and rotting in jail - preferably being b*ggered in the showers everyday by Big Mick from E Block!
I'm against the death penalty on moral grounds, but if he HAS to be executed he should not be given the dignity of a soldier's death by firing squad.
Do you think they will televise it to counteract any claims that he is still alive by his followers?
I think they should make up 2 extra ropes & hang shrub & bliar right next to him.
