View Full Version : PHONE BEHAVING STRANGELY

This isn't exactly CCTV (although my neighbour has had them trained on my front and back gardens for a year now). What happened was that my daughter was on the phone to her friend and the phone call suddenly went wierd. She lost the connection to her friend and we could hear two men talking. I took the phone from her to try to sort it out and could hear the two men talking. One I could hear clearly and the other I could just tell that someone was talking but could not hear the words properly - it sounded far away. I realised that the man I could hear is my downstairs neighbour who has caused me no end of problems with bullying and harrassment. I'm really worried now that if I can hear his phonecalls, could he be hearing (or worse, recording) my phone calls. I don't really know what to think about what's happened, but I'm really concerned and would welcome some feedback. Thanks.
I think in the first instant I would contact my telephone company and ask them why this may be happening. They can probably run checks to see if there is a fault that could be causing it. There used to be a thing called 'crossed lines' when you could hear another conversation, but I am not sure whether this can still happen in this more hi tech age , but it was caused by a malfunction nothing more sinister than that.
Once you have contacted them and explained the problem, and they have checked the line, they will be the best people to advise you on what to do if you still suspect your calls are being recorded.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but this is definitely how I would approach the problem initially.
Good luck and let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for quick reply, I'll try and get that checked out asap.
:) You might even get hold of someone now depending on which company you are with. It's worth a try :)

No, I just checked the website (I'm with Toucan) and although it's a freephone number, it's between 8am and 9pm so will have to wait till the morning.

I've just realised that in the past I've thought this guy was psychic or something as he's made comments that have made me think how the hell does he know that. I'm always worried about talking about him while he's sat downstairs listening to me, so if I do talk about him, either in person or on the phone (to other neighbours, the council or the police) I make sure I speak quietly, but he does come out with some quite uncanny comments from time to time. I've often thought, has he drilled a hole in his ceiling somewhere so he can hear us? Maybe he's been able to hear my phonecalls for a whilem I don't know, but I'm feeling pretty paranoid at the moment.

Well at least now you know and if nothing else next time your on the phone make a point of saying that you know what he is doing and he will pick that up and hopefully think oh sh*t ;)
:( NFH are very good at making us feel paranoid, hun  and it is perfectly understandable. Sometimes I would wonder how the heck our NFH knew certain things too
I would still rule out a fault on the line first before looking into more sinister reasons.
hi poppyfossil
have you got a cordless phone the reason i ask is that they sometimes pick up other frequencies and can cause the problem you had with your phone hearing other people talking
if this is the case then your phone company should be able to advise you on what to do about it i had this problem a few years ago and switched back to a standard phone :)

Oh how horrible for you! I hope that it is a fixable fault on your line and that your NFH can't hear you. I really feel dreadful for you!
