Whenever I come home my front door is covered in big daddy long legs...... I am not a fan of spiders. Mr. Hula keeps telling me the spiders keeps the bugs away which is fine but are they obsessed with my front door because it is white???
Am I asking a silly question???

As an interesting aside, did you know that the daddy longlegs has the most toxic venom known to man? Fortunately it is also so pathetic that it cannot pierce human skin!

Ns, thats a urban myth, they don't. Read here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daddy_long-legs_spider) These are spiders
But i must say there does seem to be more of them this year. I got Mr T to catch 9 crane flys in my kitchen earlier. :(

well silly me,, its crane flys that i thought you were on about lol  They have always been,,as long as i can remeber,, called daddy longlegs lol when in fact the real daddy longlegs are one of the most repulsive looking spiders i have ever seen second only to the black one ive seen that has what looks like a ball on its back which im reliably told is what it carries eggs in (shudders violently)
I have one stuck on my front door....

I re-varnished it yesterday and the silly B*gger got stuck... not moved him or her yet... I keep saying hello when I pop out!

:hihi: hmmm  did you mean the door is white hulablush
Which Daddy long legs are you referring to Hulablush?
The Daddy long legs (or crane fly as the are commonly know as) are so horrible that I become hysterical when they get indoors I hate them! The insect I call daddy long legs flies around and comes from the larvae of leather jackets that are found in grass etc; that's why when you walk on the grass in the morning there are sometimes lots of the horrible things that fly up out of the grass. Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhh how I hate them

Or the spider with this name?

You don't want to come where I live then hula. We have hundreds of them in the grass at the moment in the marina. Every time you walk across it, you disturb hundreds of them. I can live with them better than the hoards of spiders that seem to want to move in right now! I evicted 3 last night alone!
I don't mind them at all - but hate when they tickle my face in the dark - they never seem to bother Mr Smoo - maybe I glow in the dark or something?
:hihi: :hihi: at Toots :D

If your front door is white, or a light colour, the crane fly/ daddy long legs or known in yorkshire as Jimmy long legs or Jimmys...will think your door is like a big old shiny moon ;)
like moths, they head towards lights, daft critters they are! :D
we have had loads in this week, keep coming in the bathroom window (white bathroom) just catch them in your hand gently and throw then back out
