Hi all
Just wanted to offer something back to the forum, when i moved house 4 ish weeks ago we got the fire service to come round and do a risk assessment. This included fitting new smoke alarms where needed and giving you information on fire safety, reducing energy etc. I know it all sounds like comman sense but it was really good. The smoke alarms that they fitted were free of charge and they will replace them in 10 years and you do not have to replace the batteries as they are guarenteed for 10 years.
I telephoned our local ststion to arrange it, and you get the added bonus of having the fire crew turn up in full uniform
Hope this heps people

Thanks for advice, Marie.........but is this service offered to all and sundry??? I thought , in my area, only OAP's were eligible.

Well i thought this too and when my friend recommended it, i asked when i telephoned the station and it' s something to do with a goverment inititive  My friend who told me lived i Manchester and i am in South yorkshire and we had the same service except my friend was advised to use energy fitting light bulbs which they fitted for her. I hope it is open to everyone as it was a fantastic safety service i was just surprized my new house had no smoke alarms as the previous owners had kids

Smoo if i am honest when i booked the risk assessment they did not ask me any questions re when i moved, my income, employed, unemployed (as i thought it may just be offered to people on lower income or like ellengrace said to OAP's)
It was just a shame Mr Muk was home :P :P

I went on a fire safety seminar a few months ago. As a 'reward' for attending, I was given a free fire risk assessment and, just Marie, I had the crew turn up in the fire engine, full uniform etc. ~drool~
They fitted three smoke detectors for me (as the ones I had were totally in the wrong place it seems!) to the same spec as Marie's
I think the rules about who gets this service depends on your local Brigade
Many thanks
Will bear that in mind if we ever get to move from here

Do they do boats do you think? I could trap a few in if you girlies want to see some flustered firemen!!
But seriously, if they do houses, do you think a boat would count?
Might need to look into that!

Hi all
SH a boat is classed as a dwelling so i dont see why not as they have fire risks too give them a call they can only say no........................ the thought of frustrated firemen sounds amazing if only you could see now what i am picturing :P
Yi Win its certainly worth a trip round just to see the engine, uniforms and what in the uniforms :D :D
I had better stop now as you will all think i am some sex starved loony, which Mr Muk reminds me i am not :hihi:
Smoo Hose, house, easy mistake heheheeheheh
