I also heard that stingray attacks are pretty uncommon - what rotten luck! RIP Steve. What a shock for his family too...

I heard this morning. Wow! Can't believe it. You'd think someone with his gaul would never get killed even if he did get up close and personal.

I do feel for his wife and kids. Must be a shock for them.

Such a terrible shame, yes the guy was a complete nut, but he was a great environmentalist and his programmes were fascinating :(

RIP Steve

On GMTV just now, they said there only 3 recorded fatalities worldwide caused by stingray. :(

My thoughts go to Steve`s family at this time. I was so sad to hear the news.
As an environmentalist he was great and as a full of life, energetic, entertaining character he was marvellous.
He will be sadly missed by many people

What terrible news to get up to. I have just phoned Mr T, he met him in his zoo in Australia. He said he was as mad as a hatter the way he got up close to the animals. He did so much for conservation etc. What an awful shame and I really feel for his wife and kids

i always thought that if he was ever killed then it would be a croc that did it, poor man and his young family

Very sad news. We love watching his programmes. He was of course a complete nutter, but that's what made him so likeable.

Our thoughts are with his family.

One of the best things I saw him in was Dr Doolittle. He was doing his thing with a croc and it had subtitles of the croc saying "What this bloke doesn't know is that in a minute I'm going to bite his arm off" As it was on the screen you hear Steve saying "You're alright mate, you're alright!!"

:hihi: Classic

He will be sadly missed. :(

I was at a sea life center just last week & touched a ray on the nose, didn't realise they could be killers.

Steve Irwin (imho) was a total fruit loop & really annoying BUT he did come across with a lot of useful information about the animals he worked with, he'll be missed.

RIP Steve, this came as a big shock to me, as I loved his programmes on TV etc…. however I was guilty yesterday of turning off the TV when he came on with another repeat and saying to myself “Not this guy again” little did I know he would be dead 12 hours later…. Jeez… it’s a sad way to go and leaving behind his wife and two children.

On a positive note he died doing something he loved….

Never been a big fan of his show but for some reason I felt a sense of sadness when I heard the news on the radio. His passion and love for what he does is something we should all aspire to, mother earth has lost a precious son. :(

We loved Steve. He will be missed by loads of people around the world. Sure he was wacky but he was so enthusiastic about whatever he was talking about that you couldn't help but get interested as well. Lets hope that the good work he started will be carried on.

Apparently, the last time anyone actually died from a stingray was in 1945 :(
