I have bought a Beethoven CD called The Nine Symphonies by Sir Charles Mackerras of the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and its the first time I've ever bought any classical music

I've always loved classical and orchestral music in films like The Abyss the Truman Show, and Edward Scissorhands, (Alan Silvestri, Philip Glass and Danny Elfman) all of which have very moving scores  and I'm impressed with the score on TV shows like Desperate Housewives who use orchestras to enhance the atmosphere :D

I am looking forward to the Beethoven film that is due out soon starring Ed Harris, who I think is one of my favourite Hollywood actors at the moment.

What would you recommend if i was going to buy some more classical music? :D

Tchaikovsky is another one to search out especially his 1812 Overture, see V for Vendetta (the scenes where he's blowing things up) & you'll know it :D

Hi edgey

Sledge beat me to it - I was going to say the same kind of stuff! One of my faves is JS Bach - very popular stuff and in a lot of ads etc - you'll know the Toccata and Fugue in D minor - by sound if not name. And have you heard "Eine Klein Nachtmusik" - definitely worth a wiggle of the old lugs! Elgar's "Pomp & Circumstance" stuff..... ooh, there I go...... better stop here!

Something else I like that's not actually classical but you might enjoy is Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds - I'd sayit's a mixture of classical and sci-fi (?????) - again, from a film but very listenable!

I agree - Philip Glass is

Have fun!! :D
