I'm in a hurry here, I'm expecting this board to crash out on me anytime so this may or may not get through.
I downloaded some automatice MS updates yesterday evening and ever since I am having trouble accessing this site. Every time I go near a forum post, I get a Microsoft error and the site blows away.
Anyone else having this trouble and do they have a solution?
Let's see'f when I click 'post new topic' my Explorer session blows away again...

Hi MU,
Never came across such error myself, do you use internet explorer? it could be the browser itself, you can try using firefox and see if the problem persist, if it does, then the problem lies with your browser.

Ses, you sound just like my son! I asked him about 15 minutes ago if he had any idea what was causing this and he said "download Firefox". !!!!
I'm narrowing it down. It seem OK if I look at things from the forum front page, it's when I click the 'view new posts' that I have a problem.
Matthew, or mods or anyone is there a tech reason you can think of for this happening?

GEG, Firefox is an alternative browser to Internet Explorer so no, not really, nothing to do with firewalls per se.
Analogy goes like this. Internet Explorer is the chocolate bar of the masses therefore more prone to security hacks and viruses etc. Firefox is the Belgian type of chocolate bar that only the connoisseur is aware of. Consequently, it is more secure and also much tastier but not consumed half as much (even though it's free to download) so the masses don't bother.
Hey ho, I know what I mean!
Hi MU,
Sorry to be repetitive but.....download Firefox!
I've had numerous browsers on both PC and Mac. Firefox is THE best one for this site at least - Opera and Safari work but not so well, IE is a waste of time on my Mac!!
Maybe you should contact Matthew and ask him - or there might be info somewhere like
"This site best viewed using....." or something like you see sometimes, but I wouldn't know where to look for that kind of info, sorry!
Good luck! :clover:

Smoo, I've tried to find an email address for Matthew but have failed because of the MS errors. My testing proves that it is now definately clicking on the 'view new posts' link that I encounter the problem.
So Matthew, if you read this, is it my end or something to do with your? (If you know what I mean ;))
Hi MU
I've PM'd Matthew with a link to this post so hopefully he'll can advise you, although he's not on at the moment so why not go get some shut-eye and see if the :badpc: feels any better tomorrow, eh? :) And hopeflly a load moe technical folk will have a look here too! :)

I've given in this morning and downloaded Firefox which I'm using at the moment. I have absolutely no problems selecting 'view new posts' using this.
For the technical who may be able to explain to me what the problem is, I'm running Windows 2000 professional (I know, I know it's old, but then so am I!) and my IE version is 6.0.2800.1106 update versions SP1; Q823353 and Q903235. The only Windows update I'm missing, according to MS is Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 which I'm not going to install because I don't use .NET.
And I know if I'm having problems, then so are others with the same configuration
All help much appreciated

Looks like you have an expert living right in your house :D
Interesting analogy with the chocs on the browsers, I love belgium choc :)
It is often difficult to pin point exactly what went wrong with an update given that each PC is configured differently without actaully probing into the systems details. Microsoft knows that and that was why there is a roll back facility to allow their mistakes to look like ours.
There is a brief explanation on how this is done in this link

Good luck
