View Full Version : Health probs
Everything seems to be going wrong right now. I am feeling really low emotionally as it is having said 'goodbye' to my friend a few days ago and still am upset over that.
Now, mr. sp has just come out of the doctors - he has osteoarthritis in his knees and after knocking one of his knees last week is in absolute agony and can barely walk. GP sending him for blood tests too, but can't do any more as he is on the highest dose of medication.
He has also had a ho******** voice for a few weeks :( . Being a HT this may not be surprising, but it isn't going away and the GP wants to send him for tests on that too.
Now I am very worried, and upset as he is in such pain, and already upset anyway.
Nothing anyone can do, I just needed to tell someone :cry_more:

Oh SP,
What a pickle with the car. It's perfectly natural to be upset when you see someone in pain that you care about. By being there and being a loving and supportive wife, it's the best thing you can do, as it's hard to imagine pain when your not in it, but you are obviously there for him, and I'm sure he knows that too.
We all have bad days and you are allowed to have them. We are only human after all, and you are not superwoman either. Sometimes you need to let it out and have a good cry.
We are all here for you on here so feel free to rant or ask for support. You've certainly given enough of it on here.
I hope Mr SP's tests come back with some positive news and they are able to control his pain.
Sending cyber hugs. :friends:

take both + a large dollop of wine and then phone the insurance co - I gather you don't know who did it.
[/b]
Nope, it was done in Tescos car park. Didn't notice until he got home, but it was def not there before as mr. sp is obsessive at checking his beloved car for little dents and scratches. He was parked at the end of the row near the exit and asked Tesco to check their cctv - they said they cannot see it. :( It is clearly a shopping trolley that someone has tried to force between 2 cars  . We now have about a 9 -10 inch gouge with a huge dent - oddly with blue marks the colour of the trolley handle. Mr.Sp is so upset and it will cost a good few hundred. Some people just don't give a damn about other people's property and it makes me mad
What a horrid day :( and my minisp54 is going travelling tomorrow for the whole of August and I will miss her and worry about her soooooo much....... :crybaby: :cry_more:

If I were you SP, I wouldn't think about ordering any fertiliser for the garden; you already seem to have far more than your fair share of c**p to deal with :(
Here's hoping Mr SP makes a really speedy recovery,
Incidentally as regards the car (that is thoroughly rotten! - had the same thing myself), if the supermarket are unwilling to check the CCTV, or you think they are fobbing you off (might have been one of their staff...?), double check whether the camera/s appear to cover the area where your car was parked.
If they do, why not request access to your personal data (there is a nominal charge for accessing the recording which is provided for under the Data Protection Act), and demand to see any sections between the time you arrived and when you loaded up the car.
If anyone is caught on camera, you can notify the police about the criminal damage and advise them that a recording exists (provided of course the quality is adequate for evidential purposes).
Here's hoping tomorrow is a much much much better day for you.
SP what a horrible day :( Hope things improve soon and all Mr SP's tests are clear :flowers2:
:(
Well, mr.sp had his blood test yesterday morning.
6pm our GP's surgery rang asking him to go in
The blood test has shown a couple of new problems, unrelated to the arthritic knee and ho******** voice
One of them is a raised cholesterol level. His is 6.2 and it should ideally be 5. Doc has given him the most awful diet sheet which has depressed mr.sp no end!! He is in a high stress job, could do with losing weight ;) and is the wrong side of 40, so it has to be sorted
We actually eat healthily in the evenings - lots of fish, chicken, fresh veg, salads etc. However, I don't know what he gets up to when he is at work  and he is a 'comfort eater' too - a bad day at work and he is home and straight in the fridge cutting chunks of cheese etc. He has also decided to stop drinking alcohol - partly because of the cholesterol result, partly to lose weight to help that and his knee. So, I have decided to make it easier for him and do exactly the same - no more wine with our dinner for me either, and even healthier eating for us both.
It is going to be a whole new lifestyle for the sp's :) but will be difficult to start with as we are having a short break soon, so will start big time when we return. Thogh we have stopped drinking any alcohol at all as of yesterday
He has to be re tested in October, so we have to do it or have the wrath of our GP  Still, it will be difficult as I say, we don't eat unhealthily - just as well I guess
Any tips or advice on lowering cholesterol gratefull received

Gosh SP, a whole new diet for you eh?
Well, I know my dad has had to embark on a whole new diet since his cancer, to help keep his in tip top health and because has high cholesterol as well.
So my mum steams all the veggies now, no salt in anything, lots of fresh stuff, lean meats, those yogurts that are supposed to help, and she packs him his lunch for work so he's not prone to snacking (he can't eat big meals now anyway so lots of health little meals).
So you could always pack my SP a lunch for work (if you have time). A mixed salad, with some fruit to snack on, yoghurt etc.
I'm sure the others have loads of tips too! Mine is probably not great given the amount of pigging out I've been doing of late.
Well done for joining him and helping him out. Especially the giving up your glass of plonk although red wine is supposed to be very good, but obviously in moderation. Perhaps it could be a weekly treat. A glass of wine on a Friday evening or something, so he doesn't feel so deprived.
Those diet sheets the docs give you are awful, but I'm sure peeps on here have more interesting health recipies!

Packed lunches for Mr S, yes., monitor what he eats. He must be having a sneaky nibble of something naughty when you are not looking
[/b]
Yes, I think he is. Naughty mr. sp needs taking in hand

Oh dear SP... mind you, you could think of it as the push he needs to do what he should have been doing anyway. We could probably all do with improving our diets a little, now he has a good reason to do it. And if you agree to make the effort too so you are doing it together then hopefully he will feel too guilty to attempt any secret snacking!
Absolutely, Phantos.
I bet if the whole nation were tested it would be a huge shock how many have a raised cholesterol :o
Although we eat healthily, he is clearly sneaking something in behind my back  and he popped out yesterday and bought himself a pack of Lites crisps and then sulked because I wouldn't let him have them
Well, we are going to Cornwall for a few days soon, and as we are staying in a hotel it will be very difficult to be to strict with him, and it is a much needed break so can't be too hard on him , but there are some good fish restaurants in the fishing village where we are staying, and I have said he can have ONE Cornish cream tea as a special treat - well it is our holidays
But once we are back I will clamp right down on him
