View Full Version : Is there too much Reality TV?
Is anyone else out there getting so fed up with this reality TV we are having to put up with on all channels?
This week is a prime example on BBC the have "only fools on horses" on ITV they have the new Ant & Dec programme and also the start of "Love Island" It is making my blood boil
Tonight on BBC1 it's Only fools on Horses from 9-10pm then news then Only fools on Horses again
Tonight on ITV3 it's Love Island til 10.30pm then news then Love island again
Hubby and I think reality TV is getting way out of control and I thought that BBC1 & ITV weren't allowed to "compete" anymore; it's clear that ITV3's Love Island is trying to compete with channel 4's BB    Sorry not a BB fan or any other reality TV  At least when the world cup was on there was something exciting to watch and I am not a footie fan!!!
All I can say is thank goodness the weather is fine and we can stay out in the garden til late, we have a good stock of DVD's to watch, and then there's the NFH site
(I think you can tell I am pretty p****d off with the TV at the moment  )

YES! far too much, and the real reason is money. "Reality" programmes are classed as documenteries, and therefore no actors - no Equity cards - no Equity fees!
think about it! it's a way for them to make cheap programmes.
Agreed, too much reality telly and it will go on because so many depend on public vote and there is huge money in that.
I am addicted to Big Brother at the moment and I was to Pop Idol and Strictly Come Dancing so I would still like some ... but it has gone mad.
I quite enjoy some reality TV, but at the minute we seem to be inundated, to the point where there is very little choice at around 9pm apart from reality TV shows
The thing is, they are successful and the phone calls bring in revenue :( hence why they keep making them IMO
I enjoy BB, but I don't watch it every day, I saw about 10 minutes of Love Island and wondered what it was all about, and Fools on Horses I've not seen nor will I be watching, no interest
I do like the Ant and Dec show Pokerface, and it's only on for a week, but last night it was Holby City for me - much more preferable, and I'd taped Location Location Location and watched that after - that's my kind of reality TV
I do agree, even though I watch BB .
I mean...'Celebrity Love Island'....firstly who the eck are they and secondly, aren't they pampered enuff as it is what do they need to go on a beautiful island for? I read that the ratings for it were pitiful on its first nigh - so perhaps ITV should get the hint and bin it! (No this is one show I won't be watching!.)
I quite like Poker Face and also like the idea that it's only for a week :) .

i quite like the only fools on horses thing as at least they have had to learn a skill and you can see they are very committed and enthusiastic, plus its for charity so that is OK.
i also watch BB but i dont really like it any more... :(
most of the reality shows are trash and its just cheap telly if you ask me.
Im with you on this one omega
I dont watch any of them i could very easily give up my tv and save the licence fee!!
now theres a thought :D

I just keep thinking - how "real" is "real" when you have a camera pointing at you? Whose "reality" is it? Surely not that of the mass majority?

I think that is the problem. There are too many out of work celebs who have seen the odd celeb reality TV programme, seen their careers revived (all be it short lived), and thought 'I could do that and make some money'.
I do think there are too many, but then as an avid BB fan, I really have no room to talk. But then you have to make it good to watch it. What's with the love island. I watched a bit last time and thought, they are exploiting a beautiful island, filling it with has beens and then expecting them all to get off with each other on national TV? Umm!
The only fools on horses to me is just as silly as the rest of that sort of thing. Making a fool of yourself dancing, ice skating, show jumping. Whatever next?
But BB is a cruel, twisted mind playing programme and I can't help people watch. I love people watching, and seeing them all evolve and change is fascinating!
Will shut up now!
Totally agree - I am sick to the back teeth of D-list celebrities making themselves out to be somebodies just because they've got their mugs on the telly :banghead: I have occasionally watched one or two but only because there's never anything better on - probably the only reason they get any ratings at all!
