All right you lot, what if you were born before 1953? Ageist or what?
Since all the best music was from the '60s and those of us who were blessed to hear it the first time around were probably born before 1953, this survey is seriously floored.
The 1960s saw the change from American dominated stuff (Elvis etc) plus granny music (Frank Sinatra etc) - to British pop music at its best - Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, the Animals, Jimi Hendrix, The Who etc. And you want to cut us off because we were born before 1953? Well bug*er that for a laugh.
Errm, this should probably be a rant, sorry
:hihi: :hihi:(Holly!!)
Poor Matthew!!!
Oh Esk, don't be upset - I'll be grateful to reach 40, some people just don't get that far :( (oh, I'm not saying you're 40 by the way, but you know what I'm trying to say...!)

Oh Mein Papa was Harleys, I know that one too, sung at many a hogmanay party, enhanced by the copious amounts of 'tonic' consumed to get the dutch courage in the first place. Ah, i remember it well.
Beth just made a valid point here about here poor mum Bless her  about the chart record not going that far back :(
MAYBE that is why VANNER
Beth, your poor mum :( the chart link not going back that far....tell her not to feel that old.

Hi SP
You've probably heard the Don Mclean one - it starts "Starry starry night" etc and is very depressing !!

Re Vincent and ""Starry starry night" etc and is very depressing !!" Actually, I like it and find it rather moving - for those who don't know it, it's based on the rather tragic life (and death) of Vincent van Gogh.
But as I mentioned before, I'm still sulking because I was born too early for this.
Awww poor Esk, :(
Here's some flowers and pizza to cheer you up! :D
:flowers: :pizza: :daisy:
Starry Starry night- is a very sad song I think..didn't know it was about Van Gogh tho'! But having thought about the lyrics, a bit obvious now you mention it !!

the sugar puff song ''Sugar Sugar'' by the Archies was at no.1 when i was born
I used to have that on a really bad seventies style compilation album
They don't make 'em like they used to (thank goodness!!) ;)
Did someone really say who's spandau ballet..oh my gosh..what a band ..grew up with them
The first tune I remember was Buts and Pieces by the Dave Clark five..before most of your time I guess..
I have older sisters and they used to go to the crawdaddy club on Eel pie island..
they saw wait for it ..the rolling stones filling up their mini at our local petrol station ..
My hero though is was and will always be Bob Marley..if you look beyond the pop/reggae..and listen to the cultural stuff..there was a man who could tell the future..

Cool or what, better than the British number one at the time anyway ( True by Spandau Ballet ) lol
Lonnie Donigan's 'My Old Man's A Dustman' was No.1 on the day I was born, swiftly followed a couple of days later by Anthony Newley singing 'Do You Mind'

He sung it with a French accent. It went:
Where do you to my lovely?
When you're alone in your bed.
Do you dream of moments of laughter?
All the things going round in your head.
Yes you do. You know you do.

Mr LA no 1 is Lily the Pink by Scaffold/US Hey Jude by the Beetles (definately happier by the latter rather than the former)
