This is the schoolgirl who had her face slashed with a blade.

From the following article it looks like she wasn't whiter than white after all

SCARRED schoolgirl Shanni Naylor punched her attacker "like a boxer" in a playground fight the day before she was slashed across the face with a blade, a court heard.
Shanni, now aged 13, squared up to the girl and punched her again and again, so powerfully that the girl's head slammed into a wall, Sheffield Crown Court was told.
A teacher who witnessed the attack - which was watched by a mob of 100 fellow pupils - described it as "vicious".
The next day, the court heard, the girl retaliated, and attacked Shanni in an English class in revenge.

When I first heard the news on radio in the car with my GF, the first comment I made was "the girl must have been bullied constantly to commit something so extreme and in front of the teacher...".

this kind of story is a sad reflection of the current state of our society...

Aye, I guessed that the victim had herself been a bully and this was retaliation. The tragedy is that it involved the knife, which was all wrong and there is no excuse for that. If the girl had simply beaten the lass back it would have likely been subject to discipline, without either having to bear the scars of it throughout life.

Agreed!

Far too often nowadays schools are willing to stick their heads in the sand and be adamant that they do not have a problem with bullies. What excuse is there for this? being PC maybe?

(assuming that is what you meant lol  )

School bullying is going on in every school. All power has been stripped from teachers, who are too scared to discipline anymore. It's a terrible state of affairs.

I think you hit on the problem there DG.

They can't even check the kids hair for nits now, or put sun cream on them in case they are accused on molestation, so what on earth are they meant to do when trying to discipline a child, talk them to death?

I am in no means favouring violence in anyway. I have never seen the need to smack children, but if one is attacking you with a knife, I thick you should be able to use reasonalbe force to restrain them, much for their own safety as much as yours.

It's all very wrong. I am dreading my daughter starting junior. Really am.

DG has hit the nail on the head, Teachers can do nothing but get
all the blame for incidents like this.

I read that the girl who did the slashing is an orphan from Somalia with a very low IQ. In Somalia it is customry from woemn in a dispute to scratch faces.

Also the victim's family are going to sue the school  one sniff of money and they're off!!

My question would be, why did she bash her head against a wall?[/b]

Either she was abused or the abuser...

In any case the school should have done something the day before she was cut. A gross error by the school, IMO.
